Lynbrook is a small town in the southern tier of New York City. It has a population of just over 7,000 people and is located in Westchester County. Lynbrook was founded in 1873 by Augustus V. Lynch and his family. The Lynch home still stands today and is used as a museum. The town was originally named afterlyn or sycamore trees that grew near the Lynch home. In 1885, the name was changed to Lynbrook after General James J.Lynch who served as Governor of New York from 1886 to 1888. It was renamed Clintonville in 1914 due to postal reform which moved the capital of New York from Albany to Brooklyn. In 1967, Lynbrook merged with neighbouring towns Middletown and Hastings-on-Hudson to form one consolidated municipality called Lyndhurst Village Incorporated under common law rule with each municipality having voting rights but no taxing power or authority over each other’s citizens within their own jurisdictions save for shared services such as fire suppression and ambulance service between them - an arrangement which continues today (albeit with slightly different spelling). A referendum held on November 3rd, 2016 resulted in a majority vote against annexation by neighboring Queensboro Village into boroughhood – this effectively removed most if not all vestiges of local government within Lyndhurst Village while maintaining some form of governance through Common Law rules between both entities until those regulations can be rewritten or repealed following new election results should they prove unfavorable). Lynbrook is a small village in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 1,826 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Yonkers- Auburn-Roslyn Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village was settled in 1867 by German immigrants on land that now forms part of the town of Lynbrook. In 1870, a post office called Lynbrook was established and remained in operation until 1911. In 1875, two brothers named Lunsford bought 5 acres (2 ha) of land east of the village for $180. They donated their land to the Village Board for use as a public square and graveyard. The Lunsford Brothers were also developers who built a golf course and Commercial Row around the square which still stands today. The first school in Lynbrook opened in 1876 under teacher Driskellus Waringer with students from three villages surrounding it: Honeoye Falls (on the south side of Route 169), Auburn, and Roslyn. By 1880, there were sixteen students attending schools within one mile (1 km) of Lynbrook proper; twelve girls and four boys attend Grades 1-5th grade are now housed inside parents’ homes while sixth through eighth grades attend either nearby Peekskill or Scarsdale public schools which have since consolidated into one entity known as "Scarsdale District". In 1889, when most rural New York counties were organized into townships instead of openountys like Westchester County had been since 1795*, Lyngrove Township Association formed to purchase additional acreage east of what is now Lynbrook from Lunsford Brothers for $200 (). * Lyngrove Township Association continued to exist until 1975 when it merged with Plattsburgh Township to form Plattsburgh-Lyngrove Boroughhood
