In 1907-1908 Long Beach hosted the International Open Air Music Festival which showcased some of the greatest classical and popular performers from all over the world at 3 different venues: Forum Hall (now known as Radio City Music Hall), Central Park West and Memorial Auditorium (now known as Kodak Theatre). The city's only hospital opened its doors in 1911., also named after General John J Pershing who helped lead America into World War I on general Patton's front line during World War I. The vast majority of residents here resided along Third Street south of Broadway until 1955 when Interstate 5 bypassed town eastward making it an even smaller community by today's standards- but important for its history nonetheless!
