At its peak during World War II (1940–1945), Long Beach had a population of 131,878 people living in 4 wards: North Shore (east side), Central Shore (west side), Southshore (southwest side), and North Harbor (northeast side). Today only North Shore remains while Central Shore has been absorbed into Garden City On November 1st 1941 Japanese forces bombed Pearl Harbor resulting in 9 deaths including Mayor Harry Siegel and 2 Municipal Court Judges as well as many other local residents within minutes or hours of impact which destroyed much property throughout downtownLong Beach without any warning or damage assessment leaving much unrepairable infrastructure& resultant high water bills for years afterwards

Long Beach, New York is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 33,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Long Beach–Anacostia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what would become Long Beach was Nicholas Long who came to the area in 1805. He and his family moved to what is now known as East Elmhurst on the southern edge of Long Beach when it was created as a new township by an act of the State Legislature on July 1, 1825. The town's name originated with its location at the mouth of Canarsie Creek which flowed into Hempstead Bay. The Town Meeting House (later renamed Government House) stood on Canarsie Avenue until 1861 when it was replaced by a more recent structure erected on White Sands Road near today's Harbor Boulevard and then again from 1895-1901 on West Indian Island (now within walking distance of both services). Nassau County had been formed out of portions of Suffolk and Westchester counties on April 14, 1777 and so became one unit with Long Beach Township being annexed onto Nassau County that same day. On July 1, 1825 Nassau County acquired all but three miles (5 km) of shoreline from Queens Borough including present day Long Beach Township; this consolidated land area made up most of present day Nassau County beachfront property eastward to Hempstead Bay including much now within City limits - making for one large inland county seat which continued growing until 1965 when Farmingdale took over that role. In 1898 twoandonehalf miles (3 km) west along Old Dutch Road were added to form North Hempstead Township while still inside Nassau County proper; these developments merged with those around them to form today’s downtown core nearly six blocks wide between Harbour boulevard and Western Boulevard where some remnant high-rise development remains visible despite efforts by city planners over many years to take down or cover most or all buildings dating back to early 20th century – an ongoing effort that has recently seen some notable success following passage last yearof legislation establishing Lennox Tucker Park adjacent to Southold High School within Downtown Core – once again providing another anchor for future redevelopment along this important axis running southwesterly from Western Boulevard past Grand Central Terminal before turning abruptly northeast along Holland Tunnel toward Union Square/ Herald Square – finally reaching Atlantic Avenue just north of Brooklyn Bridge
