They named the bay after Sir John Longell's yacht Endeavour (1666-1730), which had run aground off Shinnecock Bay two days earlier. In 1821, before well-knowns such as Commodore Perry had arrived in California, General Manuel Miranda established himself near present-day Huntington Station on Long Island Sound with 2 cannons and 100 soldiers to survey and conquer this new landmass for Spain. He called it Isla de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción (Island of Our Lady of Consolation).Surprisingly enough for Spanish America, only 3 years later Mexico acquired Alta California by taking over Yucatán Peninsula from Spain - but nobody bothered to rename Isla de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción because no one ever found any religious significance to it! Meanwhile back on shore at Isla del Carmen some Mexicans started doing their own thing with women leading wild lives while others built homes thereabouts... so when Mexican troops raided Santa Ana Presidio in 1835 during Californios' attempt to open up Central California to white settlement they burned every house within 20 miles of San Diego until they finally located Isla de Nuestra Señora de la Concepción! However, long story short Mexican authorities soon realized that if they wanted all these people living close together there must be a better way so they just let them go... except for a few who got away and founded many more communities across North America including Anaheim Hills/Laguna Hills today! So what we have today are some very old ranches housing current day residents of Laguna Hills/Huntington Park etc., plus today's businesses such as Nordstrom Rack & More along State Route 55 just east of Interstate 5
