In 1865, the first state-run gun range opened in Long Beach. It operated until 1974. The current site of the Long Beach Gun Range opened in 1974 and is located on Highland Drive just west of I-5. The range has a 5,000 square foot range with 10 targets on each side. There are also 50 rifle ranges across the state that offer instruction to citizens as well as target shooters from all over New York State. In 1892, the first gun range opened in Long Beach, New York. The range was operated by Capt. William H. Lowry and his son Maj. John Lowry. In 1916, a new range opened in the city, which became known as the “Gun Range of America” due to its significance in American firearm history. The rifle section at this range was open to all Americans regardless of wealth or social status. It operated until it closed in 1951 due to financial problems.
Long Beach is a city in Orange County, California, on the western shore of Long Island. The 2010 census placed the population at 86,551. It is the most populous city in New York State, and the second-most populous city in New York City after Manhattan. The first Europeans to visit Long Beach were Portuguese sailors who anchored off its coast on October 3, 1524. Spanish conquistador Juan Rodriguez Cabrillo landed here on November 2, 1542 with his fleet of three ships and established a small town named San Salvador de los Cabrilleros (now part of Huntington) as part of his exploration of what would become California. In 1847–1848, two years after California became a U.S. state and four years before Long Beach was incorporated as a city, work began on building the Panama Canal through southern Orange County and into Mexico using waterpower from nearby Lake Ontario. Construction lasted for eight years; only one phase of the canal was completed: The Lockport Extension which ran between Key Biscayne and Bayamon). In 1896–1897, longshoremen built an overland route from Seal Beach to Santa Ana that became known as "the Pan American Highway". In 1954–1955, plans were made to move the entire population of Los Angeles southward by creating an artificial island in Long Beach Harbor called "Eagle Rock" to house up to 100,000 people when it was completed.. However this plan never came to fruition due to political opposition from then-Mayor Richard J. Riordan Sr.. Instead it moved eastward along Harbor Drive until it reached Watts Avenue near Compton Street before moving inland again towards downtown LA... When Expo '92 took place in Los Angeles there was much discussion about what should be done with Eagle Rock & Watts Avenue but nothing ever materialized because Mayor Riordan refused any financial assistance from either side despite receiving death threats! A new mayor took office in 1992–1994 named Garry McCarthy who wanted Expo '92 all done within Reach In Time (RIT), so he quickly announced that Eagle Rock would be razed & replaced with a new facility housing thousands more people! However even McCarthy could not save RIT from bankruptcy which ultimately led to its demise... The last major project associated with RIT was developing LBI Airport which opened in 1997 adjacent to Long Beach Convention Center!! So now we can say goodbye to those pesky old buildings across Harbor Drive from our beautiful Convention Center!!!

Long Beach, New York is a town in Nassau County, New York, on Long Island. The population was 26,844 at the 2010 census. The town was founded in 1835 by Dutch settlers and named after the beach of Long Head on Great East Harbor. It became an incorporated village in 1856. The settlement began as a small fishing village on the tip of Long Head Peninsula west of present-day Hempstead Township, and quickly grew into a busy commercial center with ferry service to Putney and Martha’s Vineyard. By 1870 it had developed into a large town with over 12,000 people. In 1898 it amalgamated with neighboring Hempstead Township to become Nassau County’s most populous county seat. The once thriving community has since declined due to suburbanization and other factors; however its role in early American history remains significant.
Long Beach was founded on April 15, 1872 by the brothers Samuel and Augustus Long. The town got its name from a local stream, "the Long Beach." In 1875, the first post office was established in the town. The townsite became a city on November 3rd, 1886. On December 12th of that year, Mayor James G. Beasley put forth a resolution to make Long Beach an official county seat of Orange County. The motion passed with only one vote against it - the lone Democrat in the County Board of Supervisors. On January 1st of 1889, Long Beach became an incorporated city with a population of 30 residents.
