Coast Guard Station No.. 2 followed shortly thereafter and was enlarged in 1898 when lighthouse batteries were added to protect against shipwrecking from Channel Islands south ofLong Beach Harbor . In 1922 Lighthouse Board voted not to renew its license because of budget cuts but continuing operations continue until present day
