Long Beach, New York is a city in Southern New York state and the capital of Long Beach County. The population was 521,853 at the2010 census. The first Europeans to visit what is now Long Beach were Dutch fur traders in the 16th century. They named it "Beach Haven" after Bechtel Manor on Manhattan's Upper West Side. In 1872, Manhasset resident Capt. John Wainwright donated land in present-day Long Beach for a town site and made donations to various charities throughout his lifetime. The first post office opened in 1875, and by 1886, when it became an incorporated village, Long Beach had a population of over 100 people. By 1906, the village had grown to 1,500 citizens and had developed a two-story public school with an annexe on Main Street. A few years later, the original school burned down and was replaced by a new building that still stands today (now used as offices). In 1916, local businessmen George Condon and Harry Heublein purchased 640 acres (248 hectares) of undeveloped beach property south of Boca Raton on which they built what is now known as Trump National Golf Club–Lebanon Valley Resort & Spa (later renamed Trump National Golf Club–Boca Raton). With construction completed in 1928–29 and opening soon thereafter,[4] Trump Lighthouse became one of golf’s earliest modern links courses;[5] its tower remains one of town’s most iconic landmarks today. In 1940 Census figures show that Long Beach Township had 2 families living alone with no children under 15 years old: both men were employed as truck drivers for General Motors Corporation company plants located along I-95 north from NY 95 mainline near where US 27 intersects I-95 North [6]. By 1950 census figures only two families remained: One married couple with two children each while other family lived single with 4 children ranging from ages 7 through 17 years old who also worked part time at their parents' businesses; these 4 adults all worked full time jobs at home during WWIIing days when there was no "ynesian" militarydraft through Selective Service System - so all males within this household served our country during WW2 without any fear or worry about being drafted into "the other war". When LBG started growing rapidly following WWII we annexed much of unincorporated area west side including present day Hawthorne Boulevard between State Road 1A/SR1A In 1969 City Council passed ordinance abolishing township government effective January 1st 1970 – very few residents knew about it until then because almost all services were provided by Village Manager who handled everything from ordinances to fire protection
