In 1885, the first shot was fired in Long Beach when a group of men from New York City set up a shooting range on the beach. Ammunition for artillery and pistols were bought and brought over by wagon to be fired at sand piles 75 feet away. The first shoot occurred on October 10th of that year. A year later he sold some additional lands east of town including what becomes today’s Point View Park area for $10 per acre (which was then worth $2 million today). This event led to increased development and growth around Harbor Boulevard as merchants erected brick buildings with narrow streets gridlocked with traffic during horse days just outside modern day Harbor City limits today starting a trend known as Downtown Long Beach which still exists today
