Lockport is a small town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 3,946 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first modern lighted weapon flashlight was invented by George Weiser in 1892. He created the Weiser Pistol Flashlight which could be used with either a wax or oil-based bulb. This device allowed for night shooting without using a lightpole and also helped law enforcement officers during investigations and patrols. The first settler in what is now Lockport was Nicholas Henshall, who arrived in 1786. The town was named for Sir John Lockerbie of Scotland and his wife Lady Mary Lockerbie (née Grant). In 1801, Colonel Augustus Porter founded Porter's Mills on the northeast side of town to produce flour for local markets.
