Lockport, New York is a small town located in Erie County, New York. The population was 7,421 at the 2000 census. One of the town's first businesses was a rifle scope shop, which operated from 1856 to 1865. In 1865, the business moved to its present location on Main Street. The store continued to sell rifles and other shooting supplies until 1990 when it closed its doors for good. The rifle scope shop is one of Lockport's most famous landmarks and has been mentioned in literature and movies dating back to the 1800s. It was once home to one of the largest rifle scopes in North America, measuring 25 feet by 20 feet in size. Today, only a few pieces of this unique equipment remain on display within the store - one being an old 6-inch telescope that once belonged to George Washington Carver Jr..

Lockport is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 17,442 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Erie County. The name means "place where locks are kept." The first permanent settler in Lockport was Anthony DeWitt and his family who arrived from Rhode Island in 1693. By 1800, Lockport had a population of around 100 people. In 1814, during the Mexican–American War, General James Krieger's brigade passed through Lockport on their way to battle against Santa Anna near Buffalo. When news reached Lockport that General Krieger was dead or wounded, many local citizens gathered to pay their respects to him as they walked down memory lane at what is now the lockyards along Third Street. In 1847-48 two waves of immigrants came to Lockport; among them were Swedes and Irish Catholics who had fled religious persecution in their home countries during the Great Famine of Ireland. They founded two mills which still operate today: Mill No 1 (founded by Daniel Boulton) and Mill No 2 (founded by John Ahearn). During World War IIlockporting residents furnished food for military camps located throughout western New York including Lackawanna Junction and Niagara Falls. In 1954-55 Lockport became home to the first high school satellite feeder system within New York state when Irondequoit High School converted its entire gymnasium into an online learning center known as LINKEdition II (). At present LINKEdition IX () provides education opportunities for students from across Upstate New York via video conferencing and online learning tools such as Blackboard/Coursera/ Khan Academy ().

Lockport, New York is a town located in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 27,636 at the 2010 census. It lies on the southern shore of Lake Ontario and is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first Europeans to arrive in what is now Lockport were fishermen who built a small trading post on the east side of the lake in 1795. In 1825, John Cranch founded what is now Elmira College in Lockport. The village of Lockport developed around this college. By 1850, it had a population of 1,500 and was known as "the most important point on the season's journey from Buffalo to Toronto." In 1861, an act was passed by Congress which created Niagara County and placed Lockport within it. This change made Lockport one of the county's largest towns with a population over 10,000 people. In 1892-1893 local physician DrsWebb & Piercy built two hotels – one called Webb’s Hotel and another called Piercy’s Hotel – at what are now corner streets First Avenue and Broadway in downtown Lockport. These hotels became popular among tourists for their excellent meals and views overlooking Lake Ontario National Wildlife Refuge across Second Avenue from Webb’s Hotel and also for their use as overflow rooms during major sporting events or fairs that took place at nearby Buffalo Bill Park or Schenectady Fairgrounds (now Albany Empire State University). It should be noted that Dr Webb & Piercy were not related to Elijah Webb (1781-1864), who operated Webb's Store on Front Street (now Third Avenue) next door to Webb's hotel until his death in 1865; nor were they associated with later restaurateur Geo Pappas (1847-1915). lockporterhistory
Locksport was first settled in 1788 by the Dutch. It was renamed Lockport in 1837 after Major General James Armistead Lockwood, who commanded American forces at the Battle of Yorktown. The town became a manufacturing center during the 19th century and grew rapidly with population growth, reaching its peak in 1912 with over 60,000 people. However, economic decline throughout the 20th century led to a significant decrease in population and commerce until the late 21st century when it began to grow again as a bedroom community for New York City.
