Lockport, New York, is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 24,923 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first recorded use of a laser sight in Lockport was on October 9, 1976 by Jerry Koppelman and John Peltier. Lockport is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 11,812 at the 2010 census. The town is one of the eight towns in Erie County that are part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settled area around Lockport was on the west side of Niagara River where Native Americans found freshwater fish and hunted deer and other animals. In 1801, Colonel Robert Haldimand founded Lockport as an agricultural community on the east bank of Niagara River by purchase from the Iroquois Confederacy. In 1806, afterlock planters built a stockade to protect their land against possible attack by British forces under General George Washington. By 1809, when lockports became part of Erie County, they were home to over 2,000 people with a variety of farms including corn and potato crops; lumbering and tanning businesses; sawmills; blacksmith shops; pottery kilns;ivery services; dairy cows and pigs (the first modern milk cow); some small stores or taverns. The original lockPORT Post Office opened on July 16th 1811 under name "Canandaigua". It served until it was reopened as Lockport Post Office on December 14th 1865 by order of President Abraham Lincoln who ordered post offices be opened throughout all Union states due to postage rates being too high for internal mail service between Great Lakes region cities & remote rural areas. You can still visit this old building today if you go down Main Street from State Street past the high school which used to be called Canandaigua High School then turn left into Park Avenue past two churches before turning right onto Main Street back to Canandaigua High School

Lockport is a small town in Clinton County, New York, United States. The population was 3,611 at the 2000 census. The town was named for Major General Jonathan Lockwood (1736-1805), who fought in the American Revolution and served as a commander of the Continental Army's forces in northern New York. Lockport is located on the east side of the Clinton River. The first settler in what is now Lockport was Nicholas Goodrich, who arrived from Connecticut in 1798. Goodrich built a log cabin and store on the bank of the river near present day Main Street and Little Falls Road. He also raised corn and hay for Salechand by means of an early animal-powered threshing machine. In 1802, John French founded French Hill on land he had bought from Goodrich. French Hill became one of Lockport's most important commercial areas because it supported several stores, churches, homeschooling institutions, schools, and mills that produced goods such as flour and lumber. lockport history
Lockport was a small town in the Catskills region of New York State during the 19th century. It was located on the east side of Lockport River, about three miles (5 km) north of the present-day town center. As one of eight towns in Schoharie County, Lockport served as a county seat from 1812 to 1837. In 1838, it became part of Albany County and remained that way until 1959. Lockport's growth began in the early 19th century when white settlers arrived in what is now Lockport from New Jersey and Pennsylvania. By 1800, there were around 100 people living in what is now Lockport. The first post office was established at Lockport on November 3, 1800, by James Mclntyre. The community name originated with John LOCKPORT who platted the area and named it after himself - lockPort being an old Dutch word meaning "to stop". In 1812, Schoharie County was formed from portions of Albany and Rensselaer counties; Lockport becomes part of Schoharie County on October 15, 1813. On July 4, 1837, Albany County merged into New York State as a result of the statehood amendment referendum passed by voters in December 36 years earlier. lockPort continued to serve as county seat until 1959 when it became part of Albany City
