In 1825-1826, when Genesee County was created from parts of Erie and Ontario Counties and included what are now Lockport and Carbondale Townships, Locker's Ferry Bridge across Soo Creek became an important link between those two counties; today it remains a public transportation hub serving both townships as well as neighboring Gorham Township. In 1829- 1830 Timothy Pickering purchased land east of Locker's Ferry Bridge for $5 per acre ($ in current dollars). He began developing this land into what is now known as Pickering Farms which henamed after himself (and his father). His farmstead still stands today with its original architecture including a large barn prominent on one side nears road intersection with Pickering Road running through town center (now called Park Avenue) just south of Water Street in present day downtown Lockport. Pickering started building steamboats on Soo Creek in 1832 which transported goods downriver between Buffalo andNiagara Falls; these boats are still in operation today providing waterborne transportation betweenBuffalo/Niagara Falls and various points along the Lakeshore Line including Toronto & Kingston Airport - making them one of only a handful remaining commercial vessels afloat that operated during prohibition era in North America!
