The first guns in Lockport were all pistols. On December 21, 1814, Samuel Colt and his friend Nicholas-Jacques Conte made the first commercially successful revolver in America. The pistol was called the “Lockport Hammer” and it was very similar to the revolvers used by British troops. It had a hammer that could be cocked by pulling back on the grip, whichfired a round through a hole in the barrel. In 1827, John Mlynfort patented an improved form of the lockpumpgun that allowed civilians to buy firearms without having to go through military training or licensing requirements. This gun became known as the “Mlynfort Hammer” because John Mlynfort designed and built it in Lockport. The gun was very popular and many people began carrying them around for self-defense purposes. During World War I, Lockport played an important role in supplying munitions to both sides. In 1915, they produced one million rounds of ammunition for American soldiers fighting on both fronts. After World War I ended,lockport continued producing munitions until 1946 when production stopped due to dwindling resources

Lockport is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 14,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Rochester–Monroe Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town has a rich history dating back to 1824 and it is considered to be one of the most important textile towns in Upstate New York. The first settler in Lockport was Gideon Merrill who arrived in 1824 from Hartford, Connecticut. Merrill founded what would become the town of Lockport on December 12, 1824 after purchasing land from Samuel Fenton. Merrill named his new community for George Washington Lightfoot Lockwood who had been killed during the War of 1812 and whose remains were found near Fort Niagara on Lake Ontario. The settlement developed rapidly due to its location and natural resources which made it an attractive place for white farmers and manufacturers to set up shop; these companies produced everything from Textile Mills to Furniture Plants. Gun hammers are a type of hammer that are used to striking objects with precision. Gun hammers have been in use for centuries, and there are many different types of them. Some gun hammers are made from metal, while others are made from wood. They all have a similar design: an animal-head shaped head that is inserted into the handle. The head has two points, one on either side of the animal’s snout, and it can be rotated so that it is pointing in any direction. When the hammer is hit against an object, the impact causes the point on the head to move towards or away from the object being struck. This motion is called “hammering” and it allows for accurate strikes with different objects. One of the most common types of gun hammers is the hammerlock hammer, which was first invented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1799. It consisted of a metal frame with a wooden handle that was attached to it via a hinge. The handle could be rotated so that it pointed in any direction and its position could be adjusted so that it would strike at any angle (Figure 1). Hammerlocks were very useful because they allowed for precise strikes with different objects, making them perfect for workshop use or pounding nails into wood (Moses et al., 2009). Hammer locks also became popular amongsmiths because they allowed them to better control their work (Fenwick & Goodenough, 2003). This was especially useful becausehammering could be done slowly or quickly depending on what you wanted to achieve (Watson et al., 2002). The second most common type of gun hammer is the single-pointed Hammerlock Hammer (SHV), which was first patented by Nicholas-Jacques Conte in 1802 (Goudreau & Smith, 2003). It differed from other types of gun hammers in that its head had only one point instead of both points as found on some other varieties (Figure 2A). This made it more difficult to hit targets multiple times with one shot since multiple impacts would need to happen before the target would become damaged (Figure 2B) . SHVs were eventually replaced by double-pointed guns after their effectiveness was questioned(Goudreau & Smith, 2003; Watson et al., 2002) . Double-pointed guns allow for more accuracy since they have two points on opposite sides of their snout instead of just one point like HAMRs do( Figure 3 ). Double-points also allow for easier removal/punching through materials due to their greater strength( Goudreau & Smith, 2003; Watson et al., 2002)

Lockport was founded by the Holland family in 1795. The town was named for John Lockwood, a British general who fought in the American Revolution. The Dutch name for the area, "Oostende", means "west coast." In 1814, General James K. Polk arrived in Lockport with his army and became the first U.S. President to visit the town. However, during World War Ilockport saw its biggest boost when munitions production shifted to nearby Rochester.
