He would continue to operate his business until 1954, when he passed away. In 1957, Isaac Fenton opened a Gun Shop in the basement of the old post office building. This business was continued by his son-in-law, Aloysius Fenton until 1984. From there on out, it was handled by three successive generations of family members: Aloysius’ son-in-law Michael DeCourcey from 1985 to 1990; daughter Donna DeCourcey from 1990 to 1998; and grandson Nicholas DeCourcey from 1998 to present day. In total, there have been nine owners and operators of BB guns businesses in Lockport over the years! The railroad arrived here in 1849 and made Lockport one of its key industrial towns; by 1860, nearly 60% of all local production came from agriculture or manufacturing. Manufacturing companies included Alcoa (1860), American Canning & Vegetable Products (1861), National Canning Co., Incorporated (1862), Pickering Machine & Foundry Limited (1912). In 1962, Northern Electric began wireline services to Lockport from its main power plant at Niagara Falls; this helped to spur development around that area including new housing developments such as Northwoods Village and Harbor Towers as well as businesses like Sleepy Hollow Radio Corporation and First State Bank (now First Niagara Financial Group). As more people moved into this growing community, lockPORT developed into what is now considered one of the most vibrant small towns within New York City limits – with lively nightlife options available right next door to some of America’s most prestigious shopping malls!
