Lockport is located in the town of Westchester, New York and is a manufacturing town. Ammunition production started in 1848 and continued until 1906. The industry was important to Lockport because it produced rounds that could be used in firearms. In 1886, the first ammunition plant was built in Lockport and it manufactured arms, explosives, and other munitions. By 1903, the plant had been converted into a munitions company called American armaments. American armaments produced shells for both World War I and World War II. The company closed its doors in 1954 but the shells that were made here are still popular today.

During World War I, artillerymen relied heavily on lead-filled arrowheads called “shotguns” to kill enemy soldiers with ease. However, due to the high recoil these weapons produced, shotguns were not practical for long range combat. A new type of shotgun called a sniper rifle was born during World War I which could fire rounds that penetrated up to 350 meters (1,000 feet). The first sniper rifles were built by American firearms manufacturer Remington company in 1917 and 1918. During World War II, artillerymen looked for an alternate means of killing targets at long ranges using mortar shells and incendiary devices such as white phosphorus grenades. They found success with the development of anti-tank mines and antitank rockets. In 1945, NATO developed a new type of ammunition known as armor piercing ammunition (AP) which could penetrate througharmor like no other ammo available at the time. This led to renewed interest in traditional infantry armament such as spears and bows while also paving way for future advances in technology including automatic grenade launchers and air-dropped munitions

Lockport is a town in Niagara County, New York, United States. The population was 7,986 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was first settled by Scots Presbyterians in 1795 and organized as an independent municipality on October 12, 1824. In 1827 it became a part of the larger Buffalo area and incorporated as a village on March 15, 1828. On January 1, 1861 Lockport became a city with a population of 43,521. The city boundaries were changed to encompass all of Niagara County on July 1, 1898 and to include the towns of North Tonawanda and Latham on December 14, 1901. On May 13th 1907 Lockport merged with its neighbor North Tonawanda to form the new City of Lockport-North Tonawanda which had a population of 131,869 as of 2010 census Lockport's history can be traced back to when Scots Presbyterians first arrived in this area from Scotland in 1795 . They began trading goods with local Indians until they could build their own mill which they did in 1798 . This mill served not just the community but also made flour for Albany and other nearby cities . In 1824 , when Buffalo was added to the Union as part of New York state , Scottish Presbyterians decided that they would move their church here so that their people could live closer to God than in any other place It wasn't until after Buffalo's incorporation into Erie County that Lockport started having some large scale development taking place Some early businesses included John Wirtz’s grocery store (1829), Jno. Blythe & Son’s tannery (1831), Aiken & White’s tailor shop(1832), Purdy Bros.' lumberyard(1834). By 1840 cotton mills had sprung up aroundlockPORT such as Fisk Manufacturing Company (Fisk Mill Place) and Dennison Manufacturing Company (Dennison Mill). These mills processed both raw cottonseed cotton and finished products like cloth or shoes etc….. By 1865 there were over 20 different industries operating in lockPORT including 10 tanneries/factories; 5 clothing factories; 5 shoe factories; 4 breweries/distilleries; 3 machine shops; 2 shipyards/repair yards etc…. lockPORT soon became known for its many manufactories along with its several excellent schools such as Central High School (now an honors college) ; Presbyterian Academy ; Adamson College ; Griggs Institute Of Technology ; Community Hall lockPORT residents played an important role during what came to be known as American expansionism during this time period because they supplied goods needed by other parts of America such as soldiers fighting abroad or farmers pushing crops across country lines
Lockport was first settled in 1779 by Loyalists who fled the British during the American Revolution. In 1814, it became a part of New York City and experienced significant growth during the 19th century. The city's commercial center gradually declined after World War II, but has resurgence in recent years as a cultural and economic center.
