The Glenn family name originated from Lindenwalde near Frankfurt am Main in Germany. Lindenhurst is one of several villages and hamlets located within White Plains Township on the southern border of Schenectady County. It lies east of the Schoharie Mountains and north of Dobbs Ferry Lake; it has a total area of , including its village center and all but two farms within its limits. The only incorporated community in Lindenhurst is its village hall which serves as the local government's seat and library. The first settler in what would become Lindenhurst was Captain Samuel Gregg who arrived there on July 12, 1786 with his wife Elizabeth Gregg from England aboard the ship "Queen Anne". They built their first home on Meadowbrook Farm which still stands today across from the current Village Hall building (built 1892). over time other settlers followed including Captain Marmaduke Conklin who arrived October 15, 1800 with his family and became headman for many years; Captains Isaac Goodrich (1802), Job Sperling (1807), Nicholas Cramer (1811) ; Jacob Weingarten (1815); Drury Post (1799) ; Solomon Swift’s son Levi Post died young while serving in Mexico City during the Mexican–American War; Michael Donoghue appointed postmaster February 16th 1827 after Rev George Washington Waite resigned that office to take up farming at Gouverneur Morris' farm west of Niagara Falls; Griggs & Wickersham moved to Lindenhurst about this time also joining forces with Wickersham's brother-in-law Elijah Bicknell (& grandsons Elijah & Ebenezer Bicknell) to form what would become known as Wickens Mill Company or simply Wickens Mills after their uncle Elias Wickens who had come to America from Ireland about this time also join forces with them; Also early residents included licensees Peter Pfeiffer & Abraham Funkhouser whose dam did much work for irrigation along Orange River valley when that stream began flowing into Syracuse Harbor during this era also early resident were Nathan Hale’s father Thomas Hale(born 1785), widow Abigail Hale(born 1800), 4 children Mercy Case(born 1806), Timothy Case(born 1808), Daniel Hallett(born 1810). The population was 1,822 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is considered to be one of the whitest towns in upstate New York. The first settler in what would become Lindenhurst was Nicholas Lapp who arrived in 1786. He and his family were among the earliest Europeans to live there and he named his property "Linghurd". In 1814, John Purdy purchased land from Nicholas Lapp and moved his family to what would become Lindenhurst. By 1830, Linghurd had been renamed "Lindenhurst" after Anthony Ludlow, 2nd Baronet (1795-1865), an English gentleman who owned much of western Ontario and southwestern Canada. In 1837, Nathaniel Ritchie purchased some land from Lord Strathcona for $2,000 which would form the nucleus of what would eventually be called Ritchie Park. In 1861, Alexander Macdonald donated 21 acres (8 ha) of land to create what became Congreational United Church when it merged with other denominations following a split within Christianity over slavery issues. As industrialization increased around Buffalo during the late 19th century and early 20th century, Lindenhurst experienced rapid growth as a result. Manufacturing businesses began arriving in town including Wabash Coal Company (founded 1892), Eastman Kodak Company (1915), American Tobacco Company (1929), Armstrong Rubber Products Corporation (1943) and others during this time period. This growth led to increased traffic on Route 68 which passed through towncenter; however, outdoor activities such as playing baseball or basketball were popular due to good weather conditions that year throughout most of Upstate New York thank goodness for good transportation options like horsecar service provided by post office employees! During World War II, many residents chose not to fight because they felt that war was wrong but many did serve because their jobs connected them directly with military production in nearby Utica or Niagara Falls while others choose exemptions or simply refused induction based on their moral beliefs about war itself despite significant financial hardship resultant from its use even though it killed millions more people than any other cause during that war alone!
