That same year also saw the opening of Alice's Restaurant, which would remain an important local landmark for over sixty years. The town currently consists of four wards: First Ward (including parts of Oneida and Hamilton counties), Second Ward (including most of Seneca County), Third Ward (excluding part of Seneca County), and Fourth Ward (limited to part of Onondaga County). Lindenhurst is a strongly agricultural community with large tracts of farmland used for orchards, corn crops, dairy operations, poultry production and road maintenance; however it has recently begun to attract some development including nightlife spots such as The Gilded Cage and The Viper Room; professional services firms like PricewaterhouseCoopers; small businesses such as Shoprite Supermarket; while continuing its focus on agriculture with more than 60 acres devoted to corn production alone. Other educational institutions located within or nearby include John Jay College–New York City Campus, Stony Brook University, Fordham University, Loyola Marymount University, Seton Hall University and Pace University. Lindenhurst has been known for its annual apple festival which takes place over three days around September 5th & 6th each year during which many stalls sell unique apples from all over Northern New York Lindenhurst also hosts a number of other events throughout the year including an arts festival held every other month during October/November; country music concerts throughout late summer; a pumpkin patch open from Mid-July until Mid-August; several soccer games taking place throughout fall; golf tournaments during early winter; duck hunting season beginning in late April/early May along with many other activities.
