In addition, two cannons aboard Constitution fired successfully againstPirates while they were ashore but no lives were lost as a result of these events which are considered among the greatest naval victories ever won by American forces during World War II

He also raised chickens and pigs on his property until 1810 when he sold it to John Jansen for $200. In 1827, Anna Purdy moved to Lindenhurst from Baldwinsville and began raising corn and beans on her farmstead located east of present day Route 8 between Elizabeth Avenue and North Main Street. In 1837, she married Daniel Purdy, one of three brothers who had immigrated to this country with their families several years earlier as part of the US Fur Trade Mission under Captains David Thompson and Isaac Brockman. Daniel Purdy was an early settler in Lindenhurst, building a sawmill around 1840 which still stands today on Main Street just northeast of where he lived until his death in 1865. In 1847-48, Abraham Weinstock engaged Mr Harry Fenton (1819-1896) to drive five teams of horses across Lake Erie for shipment through Buffalo's mills into Canada for the fur trade season; these were some of the first wagon trains ever ridden across that great waterway!
