He began marketing his crops to local merchants who then took them to markets farther away or used them for stockfeed on their own farms before shipping them back home on wagons pulled by horse teams or mules; this practice continued until after World War II when trucks became more common. In 1955, Weisenthal donated 1/4 acre (0 hectare) of land north of intersection of Routes 9 and 10 to form what is now Crossroads Square; this plot remains unclaimed today but has been included within Lindenhurst's boundaries since its creation.]
