At that time, there were only a few shotguns and handguns in America. The Sudburys decided to start a gun manufacturing company and named it after their son-in-law, John Hammer. John Hammer quickly became one of the most successful gun manufacturers in America. He manufactured all sorts of firearms including pistols, rifles and shotguns. In 1828, he started another company called The National Firearms Company which made revolvers and submachine guns. From 1828 to 1836, John Hammer produced over 1 million firearms for American consumers. In addition to his Gun Manufacturers Company, he also founded several businesses such as a bakery and carriage factory.Throughout his life, John Hammer always tried to make sure that every firearm was made in compliance with government regulations. This resulted in him becoming known as the "Father of Gun Laws." In 1903, John Hammer passed away at the age of 95 years old due to complications from arthritis . However, his legacy remains strong today as one of America's most popular gunmakers

Lindenhurst is part of the Rochester–Onondaga Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first European sighting of what would become Lindenhurst occurred on October 12th, 1609 when Father Giovanni da Vergata and his party discovered land that now makes up much of Orange County. At the time it was uninhabited but soon became a popular trading post between Native Americans and early English colonists. In 1764 Governor George Clinton granted the town to John Jacob Astor IV for his share in the Walden Purchase from France. The town's first school opened in 1814 and continued operation until 1896 when it closed due to financial difficulties caused by an agricultural depression. After years of debate over its future, Lindenhurst voted to incorporate as a village in 1907 and remains an unincorporated community today. In 1929 local developer Harry Wertheim developed what would become known as "The Long Island Expressway" which ran through downtown Lindenhurst and connected Farmingdale with Nassau County via I-045/I-495 just south of present day Route 138/Route 924 (now known as Sunrise Highway). This expressway dramatically changed life in Lindenhurst – from being one of rural small towns struggling during the Great Depression to becoming one of suburban destination areas during World War II; shortly after its completion major retail stores such as Kress & Company began opening up along Sunrise Highway including Bethlehem Steel Co., Fabrics Inc., The Blue Ribbon Bakery, Sears Roebuck & Co., Goudreau's department store and many other large businesses that continue to thrive today thanks to their location along Sunrise Highway. Despite this rapid growth some residents still long for more conventional amenities like better public transportation or an library - however those days seem far behind with only two stoplights remaining on Sunrise Highway outside of downtownLindenhurai

Lindenhurst is part of the Poughkeepsie–Newburgh–Middletown, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first settler in what is now Lindenhurst was Daniel Haggerty who arrived in 1776 and homesteaded on the present site of the town. The area that would become Lindenhurst was surveyed by George Washington in 1784 and designated as part of McKees Rocks District. In 1802, Haggerty's son-in-law John Wescott settled here with his family. By 1824, Wescott had sold all his land within the limits of modern day Lindenhurst to John Aiken for $3,500 Aiken built a sawmill and grist mill on forks of the Schuylkill River about two miles east of present day Lindenhurst. In 1832 he also founded what became known as Aiken & Company which conducted freight business between Albany and Philadelphia until 1861 when it merged into Penn Central Railroad company In 1856, Andrew Carnegie purchased a majority interest in Aiken & Company from Wescott and began operations at their new mill complex which eventually became known as Carnegie Hall With increasing industry growth came increased demand for goods produced in Lindenhurst such as lumber, flour and other goods When Pennsylvania Railway Company (PRR) reached an agreement to build a line through Poughkeepsie Valley in 1902 it created an opportunity for industrial development across Long Island Lindenhurst grew rapidly due to its access to PRR lines and its position near major rail hubs
