Lindenhurst is one of two towns in Schuyler County and lies along Route 9 north of Utica. The first Europeans to settle in Lindenhurst were Dutch colonists from Harlem, who arrived around 1624. The area was part of the proprietary colony of Westchester until 1784, when it became part of Albany. In 1814, an act by Congress created Schuyler County and placed Lindenhurst within it. There are several contributing factors to the community's success: its location on a major artery; its close relationship with other villages and towns in Schuyler County; and its access to education and business opportunities. One such opportunity is its affiliation with SUNY Geneseo, which offers undergraduate degrees in law, business administration, medicine, engineering, information technology and many other disciplines. Lindenhurst has also been known for its produce cooperative ("The Linden Harvest"), which began operating in 1951 as a local marketing initiative to promote fresh food choices for residents' families. Today it constitutes one-third of all dairies within Schuyler County and provides more than 2 million pounds (1 metric ton) of fresh produce annually to local restaurants and grocery stores across the state.

Lindenhurst is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 11,914 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst was originally settled by Dutch immigrants in 1764. It became a borough in 1872 and a town in 1899. The present-day town of Lindenhurst was formed from parts of both towns on January 1, 1907. The first settlers to Lindenhurst were the Dutch who arrived here around 1764. Many of these pioneers started out as fishermen and built their homes on Long Island Sound near what is now Hicksville. They soon realized that they could not do everything alone and so they teamed up with other pioneer families to start businesses such as an inn and grocery store together. By 1800, the Dutch had started to buy land all over Westchester County including Lindenhurst which they named Huistadt after one of their fellow farmers there called Hendrick Huistadt (1748-1824). settlement continued apace with moreDutch immigrants arriving until about 1820 when the area became too expensive to maintain with only 8 households living here maxing out at 12 people each due to limited resources and competition from other villages throughout the county . There were also no feeder routes into this new area so many people simply moved away or left for better opportunities elsewhere shortly thereafter Some notable early landowners include: Elias de Wilde (1784-1860), Jacob van der Velde (1800-1873), Cornelius Haverkamp (1802-1901)and Adriaen Cramer (1805-1907). The opening of the Erie Canal in 1825 finally brought some needed economic development to Lindenhurst however it did not mean that everyone stopped farming or commuting back home everyday like before because transportation was still very difficult at that time To get goods here you either took a boat down Long Island Sound or drove down Main Street which would take you hours depending on your time constraints . By 1830 most families had either given up agriculture completely or moved further away from civilization altogether However, there are still a few farmers remaining today who operate small farms raising livestock, poultry and vegetables
