Ammunition has been around since the 18th century. The earliest ammunition was shot, a type of explosive that could be used in artillery. In 1795, Major James Fenton of New York developed a way to make shot out of sugarcane. This became known as "Fenton's Bullet". By 1800, there were shotguns and rifles using cast-iron rounds made in Germany and England. The first total war between the United States and Great Britain took place in 1812. American munitions manufacturers responded quickly to the demand for bullets and cannonballs. Production increased so much that by 1814, American arsenals could produce more than 1 million rounds per day. In 1815, General Andrew Jackson was elected President of the United States. He wanted to end the WAR with Great Britain but needed arms supplies from American munitions manufacturers. To get these arms, he signed the Treaty of Ghent which allowed Britishiliters into Ulysses S Grant's army on condition they give up their firearms and ammunition (but not their horses). This treaty led to an increase in production at American arsenals because now Americans had something they could use against Brits who were still wearing horse armor! The Second Seminole War started on November 20th1845 and ended February 5th1846 with a victory for the United States over Seminoles at Forney’s Station near Tampa Bay Florida. At this point General Scott ordered his men to stop taking cartridge cases fromAmerican arsenals for use against Native Americans living along the Gulf Coast! Many cartridges found their way into Confederate hands however!

In 1827-28, Aiken & McDonald erected a log cabin on the east side of what is now High Street about one mile south of present day Lindenhurst village center. This early structure served as the nucleus for what would become many local businesses that continue to operate today such as: Piggly Wiggly (now Pathmark), First National Bank (now HSBC), Gretsch guitars (now JBL Guitars), Applebees restaurant (later Chubb's) and many more... When Buffalo City Council eliminated all but one seat on its council membership effective January 1st 1915 due to term limits, then Mayor Edward Hickey appointed Messrs David Schlosser and Harry Laughlin to fill those seats instead... In 1916 when Buffalo City Council made major changes which included elections being held every two years instead of single annual meetings like they had been up until that point; both Mr Schlosser and Mr Laughlin were reappointed to serve out their original three-year terms through 2020... On November 3rd 1920 Mrs Jane Vandemare becameMrs Kenneth Matson when her husband John Vandemare died suddenly leaving her with two young children under six months old named Jane and Kenneth Jr., thereafter Mrs Matson became officially known as "Lindenhurst Female Schoolmistress" until she retired on October 15th 1969... On October 15th 1969 Mrs Matson retired from her position as "Lindenhurst Female Schoolmistress" after more than fifty years service thereto... After fifty years service thruout many different administrations including five mayors; Mrs Matson will be retiring tomorrow night at 7pm sharp following an eventful evening which has spanned 5 days starting Friday night Oct 14th 1969 when city council voted unanimously not to renew her contract for another 2 year terms due to budget cuts caused by recession times....... The first post office opened at Lindenhustt on October 12th 1800.. The last post office closed September 30th 1958..... At this time only private mail could be sent here so delivery people would come into town Tuesdays & Thursdays evenings between 6pm - 9pm.... Today most residents still send packages either via UPS or Fedex...... When I moved here back in 1984 my kids were 4 & 8 years old.... Now they are 26 & 34 years old... They've all grown up And left home..... But we'll never forget how much fun we had going down memory lane shopping at Piggly Wiggly or playing together at First American Bank......... There's something special about walking down Main Street these days without seeing a person you know personally since so few people still LIVE here......... In 1946 Carl Fenton started making ice cream out of milkfat POWs shipped directly from Japan..... He used a lot of ingredients smuggled into the U.S.; some that even our government didn't know about...... His flavors include Cherry Garcia Sundae withassis chocolate ganache,... most recently Vanilla Bean Blizzard....... Today most residents still send packages either via UPS or Fedex...... We're blessed with great weather 365 days a year........ Although our winters can be quite cold sometimes.................. Our biggest asset may just be our wonderful community spirit

Lindenhurst (New York) is a small town located in Westchester County, New York. The population was 9,711 at the 2010 census. Lindenhurst is one of the oldest villages in Westchester County and has been continuously populated since 1795. The village was named for General George Washington's nephew, Colonel James Lindenwald. In 1868, the town became a part of the new United States as a result of the Kansas-Nebraska Act. The first settler in Lindenhurst was Nicholas Baker who arrived in 1795. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and planted corn and beans on his farmstead which he named "Baker's Cornet." One of the earliest businesses in town was White Horse Tavern which opened its doors on July 14th, 1800. It served as both a post office and general store until 1813 when it closed due to financial difficulties. In 1818, Elijah Cummings purchased land from Nicholas Baker for $4 per acre nearpresent- day Meeting House Road and Indian Path. Cummings started an Agriculture Company that grew crops such as maize, potatoes, wheat, rye and oats until 1830 when he sold his interest to John Purdy who operated it until 1840 when it merged with another company to form Whitney & Purdy which continued to grow crops into the 1860s before selling out again to Davenport & Bowen which continued production until 1886 when it merged with Phelps Dodge to become Phelps Dodge Corporation. In 1824, Gershom Bradley bought 232 acres north of present day Main Street from John Purdy for $10 per acre; this area would later be known as Bradley Park). At this time Bradley began developing what would become Lindenhurst into a thriving community with homespun stores anda blacksmith shop providing necessary services for its early residents including farming, trade goods needs along with entertainment options such as orchestras and plays during summertime when Route 7 crossed within one mile of town limits
