Lancaster, New York is a small town in western Onondaga County, New York. The population was 1,869 at the 2010 census. It is on the south bank of the Susquehanna River. The first settler in Lancaster was Nicholas Fenton in 1795. In 1807, David Lewis founded Lancaster Patent No. 8 and later developed land east of present-day Lancaster for agriculture and business development. Lancaster Post Office opened on July 10, 1809, named for John Lancaster, one of the original settlers in the township. The post office closed on October 15th, 1974. In 1915, local businessmen organized the Onondaga County Fairgrounds into what is now known as "The Park". This fairgrounds are still used today to host various events throughout the year including agricultural shows/ exhibitions/ carnivals/buzzers/festivals as well as soccer games between local high school teams during summer months when there's no football game being played at nearby Central High School or Lake Ontario Naval Air Station due to construction projects! Onondaga County had been formed from part of Albany County on April 14th 1861 by Assembly Bill No. 524 following the American Civil War victory over Confederate forces at Appomattox Court House near Richmond Junction in Virginia - this event also marks the first time since 1624 when Oneida Nation Indians surrendered their territory north of Seneca Lake to British colonists under Treaty #2! After World War II ended with Japan's surrender on August 9th 1945 – all Japanese Americans living west of US military installations were deported en masse due to wartime hysteria called "Operation Shoestring" – many people speculated that perhaps some Japanese Americans may have aided or even participateed in Japanese war crimes – thus reopening old wounds resulting in numerous suicides among East Coast Japanese American community leaders like Mayor Suzuki Dick Sizemore who had been deported several times himself during his career! Following enactment of President Harry Truman's Executive Order 9066 which revoked all prior Executive Orders signed by Franklin D Roosevelt - many jobs were lost within both our military industries due to lack of skilled labor following World War II - henceforth many businesses began looking for ways to foreign competition rather than investing directly into new product development! At present day some 3% (less than 2 acres)of Lancaster proper consists primarily of farmlands while most residents commute either into Buffalo or Syracuse each day for work!! Today much more focus is placed upon environmentalism & sustainability thru initiatives like "Restoring Our Watershed", Farmers Marketspace & others... yet again another reminder that hard work often leads to success!!!

Lancaster was first settled by Germans in 1797. The name originated from Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and means "place where the rain falls." The community began to grow rapidly after the opening of the Erie Canal in 1825. In 1828, Lancaster became a village and in 1851 it became a incorporated town. By 1860, it had become one of the most populous towns in Erie County with over 12,000 residents. The growth of Lancaster was due to its location on the canalside along the Seneca River; this made it easy for goods and passengers to move between Buffalo and Niagara Falls without having to take public transportation or walk long distances. Lancaster also played an important role during America's civil war; it was home to many soldiers who fought on both sides of the conflict. In 1862, when General John JGF McClellan arrived at Lancaster for his siege of Fort Hays he used local homes as barracks for his troops. After McClellan's retreat from Gettysburg in 1865 these homes were destroyed by Union forces during their occupation of Erie County
