Lancaster, New York is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. Lancaster was first established as a village in 1814. It became a town in 1857 and was re-established as a city in 1898. Lancaster is the only municipality in Erie County and one of five towns located wholly within the Oneida Nation reservation. The first settlers to Lancaster were farmers who arrived from eastern Pennsylvania around 1800. They built log cabins on the east side of what is now downtown Lancaster and started trading with other Native American nations for goods they produced near their farms. By 1814, the residents of Lancaster had decided to establish themselves as a village because they saw no future growth potential in their small community. Lancaster's incorporation date is unknown but it likely happened sometime between 1814 and 1816 because by that time, it had become an organized town under the jurisdiction of Akwesasne County (now Ontario). The first mayor of Lancaster was James Mclntyre who served from 1797 to 1800; he was succeeded by John Purdy until his death two years later. In 1818, after winning election as Mayor by acclamation, John Purdy named George Armstrong its first City Councilman In December 1830, while still an unincorporated hamlet northeast of present day Lancaster on Route 22A (later State Highway 5), several men convened to form a new school board which would serve all inhabitants ofAkwesasne County west of Buffalo Creek (thetown then lay adjacent to modern-day Elmira). After careful consideration this group appointed Isaac Hughes as Superintendent for each county westward along Buffalo Creek - effectively becoming their own public school system - setting off what would eventually become known as "The Great School Experiment". This event laid the foundation for public education throughout much of western New York up through The Great Awakening during which private schools closed abruptly or merged with government aided academies; these were often times more prestigious locations such as Yale University where many wealthy patrons donated money for instruction purposes rather than sending children into classrooms outdoors like commoners did at that time

Lancaster, New York is a small town in the Catskill Mountains of central New York. The population was 1,751 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Oneonta-on-Hudson municipality. Lancaster has been inhabited by Native Americans for over three hundred years and was first settled by English colonists in 1624. The first clear mention of Lancaster comes from George Clinton who wrote: "In this place live some people called Lancasters, who are much esteemed for their bravery and warlike dispositions." In 1713, John Lamb purchased land in what is now Lancaster from the Mohawk tribe and named it after himself. He built a tavern on Main Street which still stands today. During the Revolutionary War (1775-83), Lancaster sided with Great Britain but later seceded due to its dissatisfaction with British policies. The town was burned by patriot militiamen in 1779 during the Battle of Saratoga and again by forces loyal to George Washington during the Battle of Princeton on September 10, 1777. Beginning in 1812, when Erie Canal construction began, Lancaster became an important transportation center as it served as both a terminus for goods arriving through the canal and as a point of departure for passengers travelling to points northward along the canal route. This also helped support local businesses that benefited from increased trade opportunities generated by expanding commerce within Erie County. By 1830, however, large numbers of commuters had begun abandoning Lancaster for more convenient towns closer to jobs in Buffalo or Niagara Falls; consequently, business conditions declined until about 1870 when they began to improve again following reestablishment of regular bus service into town courtesy of Erie Terminal Company Limited Partnership (ETCP). Lancaster post office opened on July 12th 1814 under ZIP code 14073; it closed on October 15th 1975 due to changes made to USPS postal codes throughout most of New York State following passage of state law No 4394/75 entitled "An act concerning fairs and exhibitions". Today's economy relies heavily upon agricultural products such as eggs and dairy products which are produced inside rural areas furthernorth near Syracuse or Oswego; manufacturing activities have typically relocated away from these rural locations since enactment of new state labor laws imposing higher wages for Factory workers - often seen as beneficial given that many farmers no longer need menial labor performing tasks considered beneath dignity such as milking cows or sweeping floors
