Lake Grove is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 3,811 at the 2010 census. The name of the town originated from an outlet on the Erie Canal. The townsite that now makes up Lake Grove was first settled by Dutch colonists in 1624. They named it "Willemstadt", after their captain who discovered the area. In 1764, after the Treaty of Paris ended the Seven Years' War, General George Washington and his army stopped at Willemstadt while marching through Western New York. In 1803, attorney general John Quincy Adams purchased 2,000 acres (100 hectares) of land east of present-day Lake Grove for $1 million from Cornelius Vanderbilt and others. He named it "Adams Park". In 1836, President James K. Polk bought 1,500 acres (500 hectares) to the west for $2 million from another group including Cornelius Vanderbilt's son William Drexel Dodge Jr., brother-in-law Wirt Davis and nephew Joshua Frye Vandervoort. Polk renamed it "Lake Grove" after himself and donated all but 10% of its acreage to local charities as part of what became known as his "Polk Foundation". In 1892–93 a fire burned down most of downtown Willemstadt; however firefighters were able to put out the blaze before any damage could be done to property or people within blocks of where they stood Lake Grove Post Office opened on December 12th 1893 thanks in large part to Mrs Anna Jane Whitehead who organized a post office strike that year in order to get her hands on stamps needed for her efforts

His land lay along the south side of Seneca Creek and he named it after himself, Lake Grove (from French Lacorge meaning "lake bed"). In 1792, General George Washington established a military post at nearby Halfmoon Hill to serve as an observation point for Fort Niagara. The post served until 1814 when it was abandoned because of construction work on the new fortification around the village. In 1815, Moses Levy bought 640 acres (2 km²) of land from Revolutionary War veteran James Wadsworth and began developing it into what is today called Levy's Corners. He named it after himself – Grove (from French Grotte meaning "hole"). When he died in 1836, his wife Sarah remaining living took over management and development for her husband's estate which continued until her death in 1876; she bequeathed $10 million to various charitable organizations throughout her life. A schoolhouse built in 1793 by Reverend George Herrick stands on North Main Street in downtown Lake Grove; since October 2006 it has been used as a library annexe with special access privileges for researchers conducting research within local history journals submit their manuscripts there In 1917–18 Gertrude Himmelfarb designed and built three single-story frame houses on South Main Street between Third and Fourth Streets which were rented out as boardinghouses during World War I while workers constructing munitions plants near by erected large tents to shelter troops during their stay there; these buildings still stand today across from Mapleton Middle School across from Central Avenue exit off Route 11 northbound). From 1922 until its demolition in 1951 all but one structure associated with Grange Hall – that being a two-story brick garage attached to the northwest corner lot – housed Grange Hall Enterprises Inc., makers of cheese products including Buffalo milk cheese since 1903 until its purchase by Ralston Purina Brands USA Incorporated on November 3rd 1984 . A new grange hall opened adjacent to Grange Hall Enterprises Inc.'s old factory building on May 24th 1957 serving as both headquarters for operations at Grange Hall Enterprises Inc., storage areas for products made there as well as meeting rooms/ballrooms where business meetings were held before or during product demonstrations or sales displays at company events . This facility also included five kilns used to make baking goods such as LOFAR breadfruit cookies which are still available online Thereafter Grange Halls manufacturing operation ceased operations although some products produced here such that remain currently sold under other names around this area include: Hormel Foods Company line items such as hamburgers, hot dogs, macaroni & cheese etc.; Ball State University Products such as NCAA Division One Basketball jerseys etc.; Reach brand cigarettes including Marlboro Lights etc.; several nonalcoholic beverage brands including Life Saver Beverages Corp., Unilever Plc., PepsiCo PLC among others After reaching its peak production capacity due largely to increased importation levels resulting from rising nationwide prices for dairy commodities following enactment of Prohibition thereby terminating most manufacturing operations not related directly thereto ; however sales continuing through electronic ordering channels through warehouses located elsewhere .............. These days much activity takes place within walking distance or just down Route 11 northbound inside GRANGE HALL ENTERPRISES INC."
The first post office in Lake Grove was established on July 1, 1827. The town name was derived from a small stream that ran through it.
