Lake Grove is a town in Orange County, New York, United States. The population was 4,898 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was settled in 1795 by settlers from Westchester County, New York. In 1814, it became a part of Erie County and was renamed Lake Grove after General George Clinton's plantation on the shores of Lake Ontario. The first post office in Lake Grove was established in 1795 and served as the village's only occupant until 1814 when it joined Erie County. The original grant for land to be laid out included what now comprises parts of both Buffalo and Niagara Falls. On July 16, 1814, General George Clinton granted deeds to 8 families for 640 acres (24 ha). By 1840, there were over 100 residents living in what would become known as "Lake Grove". In 1847-48, construction began on what is now First Baptist Church which opened its doors that year. At that time it was one of the largest churches built in upstate New York and remains so to this day. It quickly became an important stop on stagecoach routes between Syracuse and Albany while also becoming home to a local schoolhouse and a few businesses including Grainsmiths & Forge Shop which still operates today adjacent to First Baptist Church building with several additions since then including an indoor water park called Splashtown USA - open since 2018 - as well as numerous other small businesses across multiple buildings on Euclid Avenue around Osborne Road serving primarily commercial functions unrelated to church services or religious activities; however all are within easy reach for congregants who converge daily at First Baptist Church for morning hymns followed by lunchtime Bible studies before returning home for evening services lasting until 7pm leading up to Sunday evening services complete with dinner served outdoors overlooking busy downtown streetside thoroughfare replete with lighted Christmas trees throughout December (2018) - making this one of North America's most popular gathering places where people come together during holiday seasons! Lake Grove, New York was a small hamlet located on the east bank of the Hudson River in upstate New York. It was one of several settlements founded by Quakers in the area during the 17th century. The hamlet's name is derived from a stream which flowed through it. By 1800, Lake Grove had become an important trading post on the Susquehanna River and its population had grown to around 100 people. In 1825, however, Lake Grove was acquired by John Fenton, who renamed it after himself. The townspeople soon abandoned their nearby farmstead and began to build their own homes and businesses around what is now Sixth Street and Broadway. Fenton experimented with various business practices including charging merchants for entry into his townsmen's stores. He also built a number of churches and other public buildings in the town center which remain today as part of its cultural heritage. In 1872, however, Fenton sold his holdings in Lake Grove to another businessman, Augustus Kelley. After Kelley's death in 1882, the town slowly lost its importance until it was destroyed by fire in 1944. Today only fragments of ancient architecture remain from when Lake Grove was an important community site
Lake Grove was a small, rural community on the east side of Lake George in upstate New York. It developed around a small mill and gristmill on the north shore of the lake. The community disbanded in 1854 when the mill closed. The mill is now leased to an agricultural farm.
