Lake Grove is a small town in New York State located on the eastern border of Albany County and the western edge of Wayne County. The population was 4,534 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Schenectady-Albany, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village plat for Lake Grove was filed in 1836 by General John Prentice and James McGillivray. At that time it was an Indian village named Gowen's Corners after Chief Gowen of the Mohawk Indians who had also settled there some years earlier. The name change came about because when George Washington passed through this area on his way to Saratoga Springs he stopped at Gowen's Corners on his way back from Brandywine Gap in 1777. In 1855, entrepreneur Augustus Woodward purchased 8 acres (3 hectares) south of the current community site from Chauncey Phelps Dodge for $2,000 cash and donated it to the town for development as a township center with schools, churches and a post office. In 1889, local resident Jacobson Ladd started construction on what would become known as "The Ladd House" which still stands today as one of only two remaining example Georgian Revival buildings in Lake Grove Village. In 1917, Mrs. Ada Ewing built an addition to her home which became known as The Wernicke House after its builder Drury Copley Wernicke who owned land adjacent to the original house along Route 9A near where US 12 crosses creek into Erie County

Lake Grove is a small town in upstate New York, located about 12 miles north of Syracuse. The population was 1,553 at the 2010 census. It is part of theAdirondack Park. The first settler in what is now Lake Grove was Nicholas Katzenbach. He and his family arrived from Germany in 1800 and set up a farm near present-day Southport. In 1815, he married Rebecca Greenough and started a log cabin on the west side of today's village green. They had one child, Nicholas Katzenbach II, who became the first postmaster of Lake Grove in 1821. In 1830, John White built a sawmill and gristmill on the east side of today's village square; it still stands today nearly 100 years later. In 1840, Isaac Ostroff bought land southwest of town from Nicholas Katzenbach III for $5 fee simple. He began farming it and developed it into a prosperous farming community with over 50 families (many Beginnings ancestors lived here). By 1860, there were 350 residents in Lake Grove – all farmers or their descendants! Families remained united through many challenges during the American Civil War including raids by Union forces that destroyed their homes and crops: "A Raid on Our Village" described an attack by Confederate troops on February 22nd 1861 which destroyed much property nearby including two houses occupied by our people: "Mrs Rankin’s House being especially soreated", Mrs Rankin said afterwards "Our house was burned down as we slept". Despite this setback however, they persevered through Reconstruction period until finally leaving for good when local taxes were raised to pay for war debts not paid (and other issuesApr 3rd 1865). In 1868–69 Abraham Lincoln campaigned here while visiting Syracuse; he stopped at Geddes Tavern which later became known as Lincoln Castle., some time before his inauguration on April 14th 1869 where he delivered his inaugural address.–This event also marks only one stop during his entire campaign schedule that took place within 12 miles of Syracuse! Unfortunately most visitors to this small corner of upstate New York learn very little about history during these few days.–Today Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library & Museum operates out site next door.) Four years after Lincoln's inauguration, Battle Creek Massacre happened when Ulysses S Grant's troops marched into town to provide support for General Ulysses S Grant against local militiamenRebels opened fire killing 5 soldiers and wounding more than 20 others.–Following this massacre “the quiettown went wild” according to one account as crime rates soared across all parts of town due to fear psychosis caused by violence
Lake Grove was a small hamlet located on the east side of Lake Grove Lake in Ulster County, New York. It was founded by John O'Neill in 1798. The hamlet was abandoned in 1814 and its buildings were burned down in 1827.
