When making your animal target you will also want to consider how much force you need to apply in order to hit your desired result. The first gun target in Lake Grove was a Blacksmith Shop on the corner of Main and Church streets. It was established by John G. Brown in 1835 and served as his shop until 1892 when it moved to its present location at 2242 Main Street. The Blacksmith Shop was also home to the first shooting range in town, which opened in 1858. The Range served as a training ground for local militiamen during the American Revolution, and saw battles between British regulars and patriot militia forces. In 1865, Union troops burned down the Blacksmith Shop while it was used as a munitions storage facility. In 1892, the Shooting Gallery opened on Main Street adjacent to the Blacksmith Shop. It served as an exhibition hall for guns and ammunition from all over New York State until it closed in 1978. In 1959, the old Post Office building on Market Street (now occupied by Habitat for Humanity) became the first permanent target site in Lake Grove when it was donated by Mr. and Mrs. Irving Kappler of Doyle Avenue Annex #2. At that time, there were only six targets located throughout town- four handguns and two shotguns- but over time more targets have been added including various types of rifle ranges (6x50mm NATO Rifles; 12 ga shotgun; .22LR Rifle), pistols (9mm Glock pistol; Revolvers), children's play areas (Hobby Lobby Store Target Practice Area), deer hunting areas (Deer Park off Routes 6 & 9), water features (Fenway Park Water feature),and even a model train set!
Lake Grove is a small township in Upstate New York, located on the southern edge of the Catskill Mountains. The community was founded in 1825 by German immigrants, and has since grown to include over 1,000 residents. The town is named after a large body of water that lies east of it, between Lackawanna County and Ulster County. The population was 5,054 at the 2010 census. As of the census of 2000, there were 4,711 people residing in the township. The racial makeup of Lake Grove was 98% White (non-Hispanic). Hispanic or Latino residents made up 2% of the population. According to Lake Grove's website: "The Townshiphomeowners Association (LHA) promotes public interest through its programs that provide services such as marketing and social media awareness; youth programming; event planning; parks and recreation; snowmobiling; fishing; golfing; real estate development;" Lake Grove is known for its unique combination of rolling hills and valley floors with rich woodslands near its surface water reservoir. These natural features make for an ideal location for farming and other agricultural activities including cattle pasturing, hay production, forestry and milling operations as well as recreational purposes such as swimming, skiing and tubing in nearby lakeside towns like Utica or Albany while also providing access to Huntingdon Valley National Park which offers hunting opportunities both open seasonally as well as during Advent Break each fall.

Lake Grove was established in 1795 as a small hamlet on the east side of Lake George. In 1814, it became an incorporated village and remained so until 1959. The village had two churches, one Methodist and one Roman Catholic, three schools, a post office, and two businesses: a millinery store and a mercantile. In 1952, the Village Council decided to annex what is now Westchester County. This annexation created new problems for the villagers because they were not given titles to their land by the county government. As a result, they were not able to vote on zoning changes or other decisions that would have affected their everyday lives. In 1960, after many years of struggles, the villagers finally received titles to their land from the county government and could begin making decisions about their lives once again. Today, Lake Grove is known for its wide variety of parks including Newburgh Park (located along Broadway), which has an botanical garden; Beech Hill Park next door which features hiking trails with panoramic views of Yonkers; Pumpkin Patch Park located near Interstate 95; and Legacy Woods Preserve which contains over 100 trees dating back to 1670.
