Morrill (1762-1831). In 1837 it became the seat of Greene County. Lake Grove grew rapidly during the 19th century due to its location at the headwaters of the Niagara River and its railroad connections with Buffalo and Niagara Falls. The town became an important agricultural center with many mills and farms dotting its landscape. In 1893 it lost its status as a village when it merged with nearby Oneida to form what is today known as Buffalo–Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area
