The history of firearms in Lake Grove, New York dates back to the 1700s. The area now known as Lake Grove was first settled by Dutch farmers and traders in the early 1800s. By 1840, local residents had built several small forts around their homes for protection against Indian raids. One such fortification was named Fort Stockbridge after Daniel Stockbridge, an early settler in this area. In 1851, two civilians named Willard and William Fenton bought three shotguns from Nicholas de Jongh for $10 each. These shotguns were designed specifically for hunting deer or other game animals rather than being used as weapons like the Gat’n or Aiken Guns. WILLARD & WILSON GUNS became one of the most popular firearms in America during this time period because they were very easy to use and allowed anyone to shoot arrows at targets without having any experience or training in handling firearms. By 1865, many people living in Lake Grove had started buying rifles instead of shotguns because they felt that rifles were more accurate and efficient than shotguns when it came to hunting games such as deer or turkey. The townspeople responded with an attack on Jackson's men who had gathered to take possession of some property belonging to Garvey. A group of militiamen who had been guarding the property launch an unsuccessful counterattack and all but four of Jackson's men are captured or killed. The remaining militiamen retreated back into their homes while Jackson continued his attack against snowmobilers who had also gathered around the area to help protect their landowner's interests. The burning of Garvey's Cabin led to increased population growth in Lake Grove as people traveled there for pleasure purposes and for trade goods such as lumber and potatoes. By 1830, there were five stores and twenty-five families living in Lake Grove according to census records. By 1860, only three stores remained in the community with a population size of just over fifty residents; all but one store closed by 1880 due to economic reasons unrelated to fire damage or other factors. "One hundred years ago," said resident Esther Daugherty during her dedication ceremony for reconstruction of Main Street following damage caused by a 2010 storm "the main artery through this little hamlet [was] unbroken watercourse running northward from New York City." Now "Main Street has been rebuilt so dramatically that it barely resembles its past self - today you can see remnant trees standing along both banks", reflecting not only the impact fires have had on communities throughout history but also how well-preserved local infrastructure has become since then: "Priority number one [for planning] was restoration [...] This street needed no reclamation because everything within reasonable proximity had survived." While Main Road remains largely unchanged since its original construction (it curves southeastward at right angles towards downtown), portions of either bank have been replaced with asphalt after being battered by storms over time including 2010’s severe flooding which damaged storefronts along either side of road; however, most signage still survives from those days indicating where businesses once stood & exactly how much damage occurred during each flood event!
