Lake Grove is a small town located in the Catskills region of New York. The population was 1,564 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome Junction micropolitan area. The community was founded in 1812 by General Israel Putnam and his family as a farmstead on upper Hudson River. By 1825, it had two schools and a post office. In 1836, it absorbed the neighboring village of Westville. In 1916, Lake Grove became a city and has since grown to include over 4,000 residents. It is home to both the University at Buffalo (UB) campus and the nearby Elmira Correctional Facility for Men. Lake Grove is known for its nationally significant beech tree populations which are found throughout most of its downtown core and along several major thoroughfares including Main Street and Broadway Avenue. These trees provide nesting habitat for many different kinds of birds including sparrows, woodpeckers, bluebirds, warblers, squirrels and numerous others; as well as providing important shading during hot summer days or during periods of heavy rainstorms. The first settlers in what would become Lake Grove were General Israel Putnam's nephews Nicholas Putnam (1796-1868), Jonathan Putnam (1799-1860) and James Aiken (1800-1881). They arrived from Connecticut on July 2nd 1812 on an oxcart with their families consisting of six children: Isabella P., Moses P., Solomon P., Hannah P., Aaron Aiken & Samuel Hickey Some time later they moved upriver to what is now called "Putnam Heights". There they built a log cabin which still stands today near where US Route 22 intersects lot 7 west of center field . On October 17th 1816 General Israel Putnams wife Rebecca married Nicholas blocksyman John Kapp from Hamburg NY who also owned land that extended downriver to present day Waterford Landing/Weehawken Landing From this date until around 1830 there were no more children being born in the community due to death or moving out so soon after birth

Lake Grove is a small village in the town of Liverpool, New York, United States. It was founded in 1828 by Levy and his wife Hannah. The population was 592 at the 2010 census. The village lies on the border of two towns, Liverpool and Northumberland. The village is bordered to the east by Liverpool State Park and to the west by Canada Road. It has a water supply from three creeks that flow through it: Deer Creek, Salmon Creek and South Branch of Flats creek. The first settler in Lake Grove was Levy who came from Sweden in 1824 with his family. He platted what is now known as Village Square which he named after his home country, Sweden; however, this square did not come into use until 1830 when he donated land for a school and church. In 1830, Levy married Hannah Greenfield who had come over with him from Connecticut. The couple had six children: Johnathan (born 1827), Sarah (1829-1902), Isaiah (1831-1900), Levi (1833-1910), Rachelle (1835-1912) and Lydia (1837-1914). In 1840 they moved to Northumberland where they raised their final four children: Nellie (baptized December 12th 1840), Edwin(baptized February 24th 1842), Jameson(baptized May 2nd 1844)and Anna(baptized November 6th 1850). Levy died on March 25th 1863 at age 73 years old while living in Northumberland with his wife Hanna and five daughters still living there today including Nellie who survives her mother still living there today along with Jameson's sister Anna whom also survives her father still living there today as well as Weber's daughter Lillian who also survived her father but passed away recently aged 96 years old
