In 1851, Lackawanna County had two gun swivels in its arsenal. These were used to cock the guns so that they could be fired from their saddles. The first gun swivel was made by John A. Swede and patented on November 3, 1851. It consisted of a metal frame with a wood screw at the pivot point and an iron ring around it. The second gun swivel was made by Nicholas Siegel and patented on October 27, 1852. It consisted of a metal frame with four round screws at the pivot point and an iron ring around it. Both of these guns swivels were very useful for loading firearms because they allowed them to be fired without having to remove the stock from the horse's head or re-calibrating the rifle. They also allowed for quick reloading of firearms since it only took a few seconds to get back into position after taking down another weapon on the battlefield.

Lackawanna is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 5,883 at the 2010 census. Lackawanna is located on the south shore of Lake Erie, just east of Buffalo and west of Cleveland. The first European settlers arrived in what is now Lackawanna County in 1772. In 1812, the Ohio Company founded a toll road through the area which became known as the Great Western Road. The company's successors developed several small towns along this road including present-day Scranton and Wilkes-Barre before it became part of Pennsylvania in 1845. In 1848, when New York State was created from parts of New England, Lackawanna was given to Erie County as part of that state's western boundary. When Wyoming Territory was organized in 1861, it included most of modern Erie County as well as all but a small corner of Lackawanna Township; thus lackaanan also lost its status as an integral part of Erie County until after statehood. During World War II there were large numbers of munitions workers living and working near Lackawanna due to its position at the headwaters of Niagara Riverimportant for manufacturing ammunition for both Allied and Axis forces during World War II. Many buildings still stand today that date back to this time: those Highways 20 & 22 Bridge over Niagara River (now called SEPTA Railroad tracks), Factory No 10 4th Street across from United Steelworkers Local 834 building (now demolished), etc., etc.. Although much abandoned since then by various businesses who closed up shop or moved out long ago, many structures still standing are clearly visible from any public transportation corridor such as SEPTA Railroad tracks running through downtown Scranton or Interstate 81 heading towards Buffalo – evidence that once communities like these thrived and supported significant amounts economic activity they have generally become ghost towns with few remaining buildings remaining above ground level only occasional remnants being visible from aerial photography or Google Earth views

Lackawanna is a town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 5,090 at the 2010 census. Lackawanna has been inhabited by the Lenape people for over 100 years and was originally called Mayacaquaht. In 1718, Colonel James Montresor of Albany purchased land south of present-day Lackawanna from the Lenape and changed its name to Lackawanna in honor of George Washington's home state. The town was founded on a small stream that flowed through it and still flows today. The first post office opened in 1819 and the first store was built in 1824. A canal was created to bring water from the Susquehannock River to town which became one of the highlights of early local development. The canal allowed for larger boats to be constructed and made lackawanna an important commercial center during the 19th century. Lackawanna reached its peak growth around 1830 when more than 50 new homes were erected along Main Street; however, by 1840 this number had decreased to only 10 homes due to increasing population density within Erie County as well as other counties near Buffalo, New York City and Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. However, despite this decrease in population size (and later decline), lackawango continued to serve as an important economic center until after World War II when it began slowly declining in importance again until becoming extinct altogether in 2000. The Lackawanna Valley was originally inhabited by the Lenape Native Americans. The area was first surveyed by George Washington in 1784, and became part of New York after the Revolutionary War. In 1800, the first train to reach New York passed through the valley, and in 1825, John Fenton built the first sawmill in the valley. The industry declined during the 19th century due to competition from other mills in New England. However, they resumed production during World War II as a result of government contracts. The mill closed in 1976 but remains a landmark of local history.
