As a child in Lackawanna, New York, I would often go to the gun shop down the street from our house. The store was run by Mr. and Mrs. Kapp, and they were very knowledgeable about firearms. They always had a wide variety of guns on hand, as well as ammunition. My favorite thing about going to the gun shop was that I could ask them anything I wanted to know about guns, and they would always be happy to help me out. Gun mags have been around for many years now in Lackawanna! In fact, back in 1905 there were only 10 magazines in all of Lackawanna! However, over time things have really progressed - today there are quite a few gun mags available in the town! Each one has their own unique history and story. Some of these magazines even still exist today - you can find them at various local stores or online! One of the earliest gun mags in Lackawanna was the "Lackawanna Democrat". This Magazine started publication back in 1905 and it was known for being very detailed and informative about firearms. It also featured cartoons which helped promote responsible firearm ownership within society! The magazine went on hiatus after some issues were published but later resumed publication with new editors until it folded entirely in 1919!! The "Lackawanan Republican" followed suit soon afterwards before finally folding completely in 1925!! The "Dupont Gazette" purchased the "Lackawan Democrat" from Mr. Kapp shortly thereafter before relaunching it as an independent paper again!!! From 1922-1925 it also served as bureau chief for the United States Government's Bureau of Ordnance!!! In 1926 Mr. Kapp donated his entire library of Firearms books (over 1100 titles) to Lackawannan Library System!!!! This library is still using these books currently!!!!! In 1928 another newly founded magazine called "New Era" started publication!!! This magazine was aimed at youth & family members & quickly became one of the most popular publications within Lackawannan!! It continued publishing until its closure circa 1975!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! In 1935 another new magazine called "Pioneer" started publication!!!!!!!!! Again this magazine targetted youth & family members which led to its demise shortly afterwards due to low circulation rates….. however this issue still exists (& is currently being stored at NY State University's Rare Book & Manuscript Library!)

Lackawanna was founded by the Delaware and Lackawanna Railroad in 1835. The railroad connected Buffalo, New York with Scranton, Pennsylvania. In 1847, the Lackawanna Railroad was merged into the Erie Canal Company. In 1854, the Erie Canal Company merged into the Hudson River and Bay Railway. In 1912, the company was renamed as the Erie Canal Corporation. Lackawanna is named after a creek that flows through it. The creek was first mentioned in 1679 when an Englishman named John Lackawanna explored it while on his way to trade with the Lenape people. Since then, Lackawannas have been located throughout western New York. In 1781, when George Washington took office as president of America, he established a military post at this location which became known as Fort Niagara. This fort served as a stronghold against French and Indian forces during the American Revolutionary War. After independence was gained from Britain in 1775, Fort Niagara fell within British territory but it remained under American control until 1783 when it reverted back to British hands under Treaty of Paris following their war with France. In 1800-1801, Congress authorized building a canal across what is now northwestern New York along what is now Interstate 81/US 995 between Lake Ontario and Utica (now Albany). The original project called for construction of two canals: one would run northward from lake Ontario to near Rochester (then part of Albany), while another would cross over Seneca Lake and connect with Canandaigua on its eastern side near Geneva (now Syracuse). However these plans were never completed because of financial difficulties caused by several factors including floods in 1800 and 1801; competition from other canal projects being built at similar times by other companies; technological advances leading to increased efficiency inCanal construction rather than new construction methods; political changes resulting in United States recognition of Canada instead of England; and fears that an open border between Canada and America would lead to large amounts of traffic crossing over into Canada without proper controls or checks coming into play
