Kingston is a small town in the Finger Lakes region of New York State. It was first settled by English colonists in 1614 and became part of the Province of New York in 1784. The population was 5,362 at the 2010 census. The town is home to Kingston Central High School, which serves students from grades 9 through 12. In addition to high school, Kingston has two elementary schools—Queen's Chapel Elementary School and Baggs Road Elementary School—and a middle school, Kingston Middle School. In 1784 Kingston joined with other towns in what is now Monroe County to form the new province of Ontario. On January 1st 1802 Kingston became an incorporated village under the jurisdiction of Niagara Falls Township until 1828 when it was annexed into Canandaigua Township along with all but one other township in that area. On November 15th 1898 Queen's Chapel ElementarySchool opened its doors to pupils from grades K through 8 after years long wait by parents AND trustees OF CANADAIGUA TOWNSHIP SCHOOLS! KINGSTON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL HAD BEEN OPEN TO PUPILS FROM GRADE 9 THROUGH 12 BUT THAT WAS CHANGED ON NOVEMBER 15TH 1998 WHEN QUEEN'S CHAPEL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BEGAN TO OPERATE AS A KINDERGARTEN! KINGSTON CENTRAL HIGH SCHOOL IS NOW THE LARGEST PUBLIC HIGH SCHOOL IN KINGSTON!
