The first settler in what would become Kingston was Nicholas de Kersey who arrived thereMay 8, 1624 with his family from Deptford Township in Middlesex County, England. De Kersey named his new land “Kingston” after James II – then King of England – because it had been given to him by Royal Charter for this purpose. In 1795, when Albany were granted their own county by George Washington and Allegany were combined into Albany County, Kingston became part of that newly created county too until 1834 when it reverted back to Nassau County due to population growth within that province during that time period; however much like other villages on Long Island it continued to exist administratively separate from Albany until 1840 when all villages on Long Island were consolidated into one single municipality under the name “Nassau” which included all but four outlying townships including Kingston proper: North Hempstead, South Hempstead (then called Westport), East Hampton (then called Southampton) and East Norwich (now Norwalk). Kingsland-on-the-Hudson River served as a major market town for agricultural produce grown around Newtown Valley west of Babylon before opening up shop along Main Street between Hicksville and Islip beginning about 1800 where they sold eggs and cattle until 1837 when transportation improved such that goods could be transported further inland via steamboats loading onto cars at North Terminal on Jericho Turnpike/Route 5

When the British conquered Canada in 1813, they made Kingston one of their new municipalities within Ontario County. The town's first Mayor was James Livingston (1714-1722). Livingston served as Mayor for three terms between 1714 and 1824 before becoming a Justice of the Peace for Ontario County in that year. In 1824, when Kingston became a county seat of Ontario County – which it remains to this day – it also became an incorporated village with a governing board composed of five members appointed by theexisting magistrate(s). At this time, Kingston had a population of over 30 thousand people living within its limits! During the early years of Confederation (1867-1901), many manufacturing jobs were created in nearby Niagara Falls due to advances being made in engineering and machine tools at that time; as well as other new industry developments such as plastics production and transportation technology along with advancements in agriculture resulting in increased yields across all typesof farms throughout Canada’s agricultural interior during this period! This helped contribute significantly to overall growth rates across all Canadian provinces during this time period! In 1918 however – following World War I – key decisions were made regarding changes that would come about through Confederation which would have sweeping consequences for both Canadaweatherfronted communities like Toronto and Niagara Falls alike; these changes included creating an entirely new government structure within Canada called Dominion Government under Sir John Auld’s leadership! This decision effectively ended mass immigration into Canadaweatherfronted communities like Toronto while increasing English speaking populations throughout rural areas struggling economically under Dominion rule; however, not everyone saw things same way politically or socially! In fact some hardline elements within certain English speaking neighbourhoods felt marginalized because they didn’t share power equally with francophone newcomers!! Consequently tensions continued unabated right up until our North American society transitioned into what we know today as “the 21st century”! However despite these challenges faced by certain sectionsofthe community during that time period there has been ongoing dialogue/cooperation between these groups ever since!! Today though much has changed culturally & linguistically within our local community especially given current trends & policies espoused vis-a-vis refugees residing here!!! However much good has come from those early days including: 2 large high schools now operating (& thriving) locally alongside numerous small businesses etc!!!!! All contributed greatly towards keeping our historic downtown core vibrant & active!!!
