Kingston, New York is a small town located in the Towns of Niagara Falls and Bolton in Onondaga County, New York. The population was 3,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The village had an estimated population of 2,000 in 2000 and 2,826 according to the 2010 census. The first gun target in Kingston was erected on July 25th 1812 by Major John Smith in memory of his wife Sarah Harker who died soon afterwards from fever contracted while serving with the British army during the Napoleonic Wars. The target was made out of hard wood and sod used for target practice at Fort Erie on the Canadian side of Lake Ontario. In 1827, Captain Nathaniel Greene put up a target shooting stand near where he now lives on Main Street. He enjoyed using his targets for practice against local farmers and their livestock during summer months when there were no trees or hills nearby to provide cover. Morse & Sons at the southeast corner of Third and First Streets. In 1913, a popcorn machine factory was firebombed, leaving two buildings charred with smoke and flames lasting more than three hours. The attack caused great damage to both businesses but no injuries were reported; it is presumed that the building had been used as a gun target before then. - In 1946, Kingston hosted its first international pistol shooting competition which resulted in £50 being won for the best shooters from across Canada

Kingston, New York is a town in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 914 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rochester, NY Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town name comes from the French for "place where two rivers meet." The first settlers in Kingston were Robbin and Betsy Jeffries who built a cabin on the east side of what is now Route 6 in 1828. In 1829 they married Mary Livingston and moved to their present site on the west side of Route 6. They raised five children there:Betty (1830-1911), James (1832-1924), John (1834-1910), Anna (1838-1920) and Florence (1840-1920). In 1848 Orson Welles settled in Kingston after moving from Rochester, New York. He became an important figure in early American theatre and wrote several plays here including The Rose Tattoo and Macbeth. After his death in 1903, Kingston lost much of its theater business to Rochester but regained some prominence with the reintroduction of classical music to the area by conductor Arturo Toscanini in 1951. Today's economy centers around agriculture and tourism with special emphasis on Niagara Falls National Park which offers a variety of activities including swimming, hiking/ biking/and fishing.
Kingston was founded in 1755 by the Dutch. It became a British colony in 1807. The town's first mayor was John Graves Simcoe. Kingston was renamed New York City in 1898.
