Kingston, New York is a town in the Hudson Valley in central New York, United States. The population was 27,859 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Albany–Schenectady–Troy Metropolitan Statistical Area. Kingston was founded by English colonists in 1724 and incorporated as a village in 1785. It became an town on December 12, 1807. The town has a total area of 26 square miles (79 km²). The first settlers to Kingston were English colonists who arrived there during the early 17th century looking for new land to settle after their losses in North America following the Seven Years' War. By 1724, some 30 families had settled here and began to build small houses on what is now Main Street. Early industry included spinning wheels and weaving mats from local fields until transportation became available by wagon or horseback overland from Albany and Schenectady. In 1807, when Kingston became an independent municipality, it had a population of about 100 people and consisted of five streets only: Market Street, Front Street (now commercial Parkway), High Street (now Elmira Road), Middle Streets (now State Highway 10) and Waterfront Avenue. The boundaries of present-day Kingston have changed numerous times since its incorporation as a village; but most notably they have grown around residential areas such as Riverside Drive/Kingsway Boulevard north of Central Park westward into the Mohawk River valley beyond that boundary; also within present-day Kingston are several thousand acres (20 km²) of forested lands which support hunting and fishing opportunities as well as providing much needed open space for farming operations In recent years there has been significant investment made in infrastructure including new schools, roads and parks while also increasing tourism which has helped contribute to overall economic growth over the past few decades Kingston is located just south of Albany on Hwy 9 south east of Utica with access via Hwy 25 eastbound & westbound both leading into Albany proper

In addition to its importance as an agricultural center during prohibition times, Kingston also served as a major transportation hub during those years. This was especially true due to its location on two major rivers-the Hudson River and the Erie Canal- which made it easy for goods to be transported between upstate New York and points southward. As such, Kingston quickly emerged as one of America’s most important cities during this time period!
