Kingston is a small town in Sullivan County, New York, United States. The population was 1,539 at the 2010 census. The name is derived from the first settlement in the area: Kingston on the Mohawk River. The first settlement was called Westfield and was located on the east side of the river where present-day Kingston stands. In 1724, a party of settlers under Major John Barker founded what became known as Easton on the west side of the river opposite Westfield. This location lay within present-day Albany County and is now part of Yonkers City. In 1814, a detachment of troops belonging to Major General Israel Putnam marched through Kingston upon its arrival at Fort Niagara to relieve General Nelson Mandela from duty there with his brigade during the War of 1812. On their return trip they passed through Kingston and are said to have stopped at what is now Easton Tavern for dinner before continuing their ride back to Fort Erie. In 1830, Captain John Stephenson built a sawmill on what is now Main Street in Kingston which functioned until 1871 when it closed due to lack of customers. It reopened in 1903 as an open-air market place known as Stephenson's Market Place after Captain Stephenson's son who operated it until his death in 1951. In 1865, Congress authorized creation of an agricultural district including all or parts of Sullivan and Herkimer counties; this new district was named for Colonel Alexander Hamilton Richmond (1767–1835), one of its original members and later Secretary Of State under President James Ketchum Fillmore (1853–1861). A post office called Westfield housing continued operating until 1881 when it was discontinued because no mail could be sent from there anymore due to distance being too great between Westfield and Kingston NY stations having different rates for postage stamps respectively An early church stand erected about 1800 by meek Mr Bloodgood bears witness that this magnificent structure stood some time prior thereto near this spot commonly know by these latter days as Meeting House Square according to planisphere views taken circa 1840... Meetings were then had hereabouts before very soon afterwards buildin’ up around it an Episcopal Church dedicated thereto by Bishop Lowther sometime previous... At present day only beliveable remains beside modern foundation stones remnant still standing today near Meeting House Square

Kingston, New York is a small town in the Hudson Valley of upstate New York. It was founded by Dutch settlers in 1624 and named after the English city of Kingston upon Hull. The population was 5,554 at the 2010 census. The town is located in Clinton County on the south bank of the Susquehanna River, about 20 miles (32 km) east of Albany and 50 miles (80 km) north of Buffalo. The first settler in Kingston was Johannes de Molenaar, who arrived in 1624 with his family from Rotterdam. He built a log cabin and started farming land around it. In 1629, he married Anna van der Weelde and they began to raise chickens for their eggs and meat. In 1630, they erected a house on what is now Elm Street. They called their settlement "De Valk". In 1634, Jonas Coytner came to Kingston from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania with his family to start a farm near present-day Main Street and Fishkill Creek. His wife Hannah Coytner also came to Kingston with him. They built a large two-story frame house on what is now West Main Street. Their son Jonathan Coytner became one of the most successful farmers in Kingston when he acquired over 100 acres (40 ha) of land near what is now Elm Street between West Main and East Main Streets in 1792. From this land, he developed an extensive crop rotation that produced cornmeal flour for baking breads, noodles and other dishes; cheese; cattle; hogrie shellfish; potatoes; appleseeds; leather tanning products; coffee beans ; whisky distilleries Jonathan Coytner's descendants continued to operate these businesses into the twentieth century: John Fenton Coytner ran one distillery until 1930 while another branch operated under name Kohnhoff until 1984 before being closed down due to prohibition); Edward J Coytner ran ECONOMY COFFEE COOPERATIVE from 1959 until his death in 1998–2000; Randolph Woynicki founded RICHARD WOYNICKI STORES INC., which operates as WOYNNICKI ENTERPRISES LTD.; Raymond Hoyer founded KINGSTON PLANTATION LAND & HOME CO., LTD., which operated several stores including Hoyer's Hardware Store from 1951 until its sale to Sears & Roebuck circa 1970; Donald Dolan founded DONALD DOLAN ENTERPRISE LIMITED which operates as DAVIDSON'S DISTRIBUTION CORP.; Arthur Amann opened ARTHUR AMANN STORES INC., which operated as Amann's Department Store from 1951 until its sale circa 1975 In addition to these general store operations there were numerous blacksmith shops active during this time: Elijah Cockumin worked at John Fenton Coytner's Distillery beginning around 1800 while Adam Balthazar worked at Elijah Cockumin's Shop beginning around 1800 continuing until 1825 when he left for India seeking wealth through business opportunitiesThere were also several grocery stores active during this time: Abel Stroud opened ABEL STROIGHT GARAGE early 1800s while Ebenezer Strong opened EBENEZER STRONG GARAGE early 1830s while Nicholas Noe open NICHOLAS NOE'S GARAGE mid 1850s
