Kenmore, New York is a city located in the Hudson Valley of New York State. The population was 997 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat for Westchester County. The first European settlement in what is now Kenmore was made by Dutch colonists in 1624. The town was named after Johnsewoort, Count of Holland. In 1784, the town became part of Saratoga County and was renamed Kenmore. In 1814, during the War of 1812, Ulysses S. Grant's army passed through central Kenmore on their way to battle General Daniel Boone at Fort Pitt near Pittsburgh. At that time, there were no houses or other buildings in town because development had not begun yet. On July 1, 1815, when Sumner Green’s brigade of militia under Brigadier General George Armstrong Custer marched into town from White Plains to attack British forces entrenched along Hennepin Avenue (now I-290), many people fled into barns and buildings until it was too late; Custer's force overran and destroyed all but two buildings before reaching safety. When American troops burned down parts of Saratoga Springs on June 25–27, 1865 as part of an effort to quench public indignation against Ulysses S. Grant's administration following theraid of Fort Sumter—or "The Massacre"—Kenmore residents came out to help put out the fire and collect insurance money from their properties which had been damaged or destroyed by arsonists during that period (some estimates place this number as high as 100 percent). On May 12th 1861 Peter Cooper founded Cooper Union School in downtown Kenmore with six students; today it continues as one of America's most renowned universities with more than 60 undergraduate campuses around the world including Tokyo University and Hong Kong University among others

In 1821, he married Susannah Case and together they founded what would become one of America’s oldest commercial towns - KenMORE WINEgrowing into one of the largest winegrowers in Upstate New York During Prohibition era (1912-1927), many businesses closed their doors due to government regulations prohibiting alcohol sales In 1950, during President Harry S Truman's administration efforts were made to revive American Industry by creating National Recovery Administration In 1962-1964, Mayor Arthur Ashebaum revitalized downtownKENMORE square with $1 million dollars from Rockefeller family foundation The Town Council decided that it was time for a new civic center which was dedicated on November 11th 1964 named “Arthur Ashebaum Civic Center” after then Mayor Arthur Ashe Bailey Today’s community is characterized by diversity – there are numerous cultural organizations located throughout town including several theaters, art galleries and professional sports teams
Kenmore was first settled by Europeans in 1614. In 1881, the town became a county seat and was named after Major General George Washington.
