Beardsley and by 1865 there were 20 homes in the village. In 1886, construction began on what would become Kenmore Hall which served as both a Congregationalist church and school until 1927 when it was replaced by Kenmore Elementary School. In 1907, local farmers formed a cooperative to produce hay for local sheepherders and by 1912 they had bought land surrounding what is now Elmira College to start their own college, now Elmira State University (ESU). They named it after their hometown of Kenmore, Scotland which they had visited while living in Greenfield before emigrating to America in 1902. cultivation resumed around 1925 when ESU purchased more land from the farmers including today's site of Elmira Stadium where football games are played today. Kenmore has experienced many changes over its history but one thing has always been its close proximity to Elmira College which continues to play an important role in its culture and economy even though enrollment has seen some growth since then (the nearest public university with rank #2 nationally according to UPI/Times Higher Education), continue offering various undergraduate degrees as well as graduate degrees; most notably law school programs have relocated here from nearby Syracuse or Buffalo over time while other major industry sectors such as health care services have also grown more established here than outside of town limits over time; much like many other small towns throughout Upstate New York this unique mix of economic activity gives locals something that sets them apart from larger cities or rural areas; something that can be observed even within tiny communities like those found around Elmira College given how quickly technology advances no matter where you live in North America!
