The name "Kenmore" derives from one of eight Iroquois word meanings "place where corn is gathered." The town was founded by farmers who named their farm after the stockyards near Niagara Falls. The first post office in Kenmore opened on December 12, 1836. In 1868, local businessman John Fenton built a small dam and park called Lake Erie Basin on the western edge of town for use as an amusement park and pleasure ground for his friends and family. The basin became known as Kenmore Heights when it was annexed by the city in 1902. In 1907, developers renamed the city after Sears Roebuck president Kenworthy Knoepfle because he had sponsored legislation creating school districts within Westchester County. In 1923, Knoepfle donated land to build what would become Elmira College; Elmira's current campus began construction that year. What started as a small village grew into one of America’s most vibrant cities over time – with its own police department, fire department, library system, riverside parks and more than 1 million residents today!

Kenmore is a town in Westchester County, New York, United States. The population was 12,952 at the 2010 census. It is part of the100 largest incorporated cities in the United States. The town was founded by George Kenmore in 1814 and named after his father, also George Kenmore. The first store was built on Main Street in what is now the downtown area of Kenmore. In 1825, a post office was established at what is now the corner of Main and Washington Streets; it continued to serve the town until 1860 when it moved to Saratoga Springs. In 1835, John Woolridge began construction on what would become White Plains Rd., which connected main streets in both towns and shortened travel time between them. The road became one of the primary transportation arteries for people living near each other until It came under attack by settlers during World War II. One reason given for this was that traffic along White Plains Rd had become so heavy that trucks couldn’t use it safely due to tight curves and changes in elevation; truckers were forced instead to take Ulysses S Grant Blvd., which bypassed Kenmore entirely. In 1905, ownership of most of White Plains Rd passed from Woolridge to Rochester Trust Company; however, some sections still remained privately owned until 1963 when they were sold off to developers (most notably Seymour Hirsch). After years of neglect and depreciation as a result of this economic change (and government funding cuts), much work has been done over recent years to turnkenmore into an attractive community with new shopping malls/resorts/spas/hotels etc.; however there are still many areas that need improvement such as infrastructure development (elevators etc.), public education (particularly science & math curriculum), job training and housing redevelopment/creation/.
