Johnson City, New York is a small town located in the Finger Lakes region of New York state. The population was 10,561 at the 2010 census. The town is named after Ulysses S. Grant and his family who settled there in 1837. The first settler in Johnson City was James Fenton who built a cabin on the east side of the creek in 1837. By 1840, there were twenty-one settlers living in Johnson City. In 1851, John Atherton donated land to form the town square and by 1860, there were seventy-four residents living in Johnson City. The first rifle stocks company was organized in Johnson City on November 11th, 1859 by Captain JW Atherton with men from Albion County under command of Lieutenant Colonel Augustus Ewing. The company served as an auxiliaries to the 8th Regiment NY Volunteers during the American Civil War. On October 28th 1861, Captain Atherton resigned his commission due to ill health and moved to Rome, New York with his wife Julia to join their son Ulysses S Grant Jr where he continued operations as a gunsmith until his death in 1865 at sixty-six years old. After Captain Atherton's death, his eldest son Ulysses S Grant III took over management of the business which continued until 1886 when it passed into control of another brother Charles Haddon Atherton who ran it for sixteen years before selling it to George Wickersham Sr., president of Wickersham Rubber Company who operated it until 1977 when it passed into private ownership again and currently resides at 6 Main Street which fronts onto Elmira Road/Route 585B withinJohnson City limits

In 1897, the last census reported that only 100 residents lived withinJohnson City limits; this number would decrease even further until it disappeared completely during World War II when all active businesses were destroyed or moved away due to bombings and other wartime activity within the area。 After World War II ended however, much of what had once been lost became available again as developers began to redevelop what had once been farmland into housing developments and other types of businesses……Today there are only a handfulof original settlers remaining who maintain close ties with their hometown while also remaining engaged with local community events….. In 1922-23 a group of young women from Uniontown decided to form a Ladies’ Aid Society known as “The Golden Girls” which soon became quite popular throughout the surrounding villages….One reason why these women found success is that they were very organized and always kept track of things both inside and outside their society- something that many women lacked at that time….They also did an excellent job publicizing their society through various means such as writing articles for local newspapers or holding social functions outdoors where everyone could attend without fear of judgment……After just one year however (22/3/1922), they disbanded because they felt they were not doing enough to help people……However similar organizations have continued up until this day…..Today there are still some ladies who work closely with our society although we no longer have any formal meetings….We do however communicate online using chat rooms

In 1961, Johnson City merged with the adjacent town of Malone to form Malone-Johnson City-Albanyville Incorporated.
