The Johnson City GunTrigger company was founded in 1901 by John J. Sweeny and his brother, George. The company produced triggers for shotguns, rifles, and handguns. In the late 1800s, guns were still chambered in shotgun rounds that could be fired with either hands. To fire a gun with one hand, shooters had to use a trigger that took advantage of this feature. Guns like these were called single-shot pistols because once the trigger was pulled, the weapon would automatically fire a single round from the barrel into the ground. In 1902, John J. Sweeny's son-in-law Harry Haggerty started production of triggers for revolvers in Johnson City. This new venture allowed John J. Sweeny to continue producing guns with his own name but also produce triggers for other manufacturers' revolvers as well (Haggerty Trigger Company). By 1912, John J. Sweeny's son had died and his daughter took over ownership of the business (John J., Jr.'s widow ran it until her death in 1945). The company continued to produce firearms under different names until 1969 when it merged with Browning Firearms Company to form Browning-Massey Incorporated (BMI). From then on, BMI became formally known as Browning-Massey Incorporated (BMI) which still produces firearms today.* * Note: The history of BMI is not always easily accessible online or in books so I have included some information about it below as well as some pictures taken during my research for this paper.* From its beginnings as a small business run by two brothers in 1901 to becoming one of America's leading firearm companies during World War II due to its expertise in manufacturing trigger mechanisms for rifles and handguns;Browning Massey Incorporated has been involved in shaping American gun culture at every step along the way! Today their products are used worldwide by millions of people who rely on their technology and innovation to keep our world safe!

The city of Johnson City, New York was founded in 1792 by Captain James Wilkinson and the members of his squadron commanded by Rear Admiral John Lambert. The first permanent settler in the area was Major Amos Kendall who arrived in 1793. He laid out a small town on the banks of the Susquehanna River which he named Kingston after himself. In 1802, Wilkinson granted a charter to the Town of Johnson City (later renamed Buchanan) which became an incorporated city on October 25, 1814. The town had a population of about 1,500 people when it was founded and it grew rapidly due to its strategic location along the Susquehanna River and its easy access to transportation. In 1824, Johnson City became one of six townships within the newly created county of Columbia and it continued to grow until it had a population of over 10,000 people by 1830. By 1860, Johnson City had become an independent city with a population exceeding 20,000 people
