George Washington visited here during his military campaign against British forces in 1776-77. He erected a small fort here which served as his Headquarters during these hostilities. In 1801 when New York became an United States territory, Johnson City became part of it and continued to serve as its Capital until 1836 when Albany took over that role. When Jacksonian America began emerging as a powerful political force after the American Revolution, Johnson City quickly became associated with its leader – Jackson himself – both politically and economically. By 1800 Key West had become Jackson's preferred port for India trade due to its close proximity to Cuba; howeverJackson cancelled all Indian trade plans because he felt that it encouraged piracy across international boundaries which threatened Ulysses S Grant's empire worldwide! This event helped solidify Johnson City's status within Jacksonian America as an important commercial center for central New York state where businessmen could conduct their business without fear of retaliation from abroad or potential threats from foreign powers! In 1827 George Stephenson founded what would become Pennsylvania Railroad Company (PRR) headquartered here; this company would later be renamed Penn Central Railway Company (PCR). In 1886 PRR merged with NYC & Atlantic Railway Company (NYC&A) forming Penn Central Corporation (PCR). Amtrak originated from PCR when it leased trackage rights from NYC&A between Scranton/Wilkes-Barre & Buffalo Junction (now Lackawanna Brewing Company) and Syracuse/Albany stations en route between New York City (& Newark NJ), Philadelphia (& Trenton NJ), Baltimore (& Reisterstown MD), Chicago (& Rockford IL), St Louis Mo., points north including Cleveland OH&K,and points south including Jacksonville FL!

Johnson City was founded by John Johnson in 1795. The town was named for him because he built the first mill on the current site of Johnson City in 1796. Johnson City was incorporated as a city in 1824. The original courthouse, located on Main Street, burned down in 1835. The new courthouse was completed in 1837 and is still used today. Johnson City is home to several museums, including the Oklahoma Historical Museum and Ethnographic Museum, which features exhibits about the culture of the Native Americans who lived in and around Johnson City before European arrival. There are also two playgrounds and a library in the town. In addition, there are several restaurants and a few stores located within walking distance of downtown.
Johnson City is a small town in the Catskills of upstate New York. It was founded in 1824 by Noah Johnson and his wife Rebecca. The first post office in the town was established in 1826. Johnson City is located on the banks of the Chenango River.
