The British also destroyed many valuable buildings in Philadelphia including the old stock exchange building which still stands today1973

The area that became New York City was originally part of Albany, and then part of Utica, before being acquired by New Yorkers in 1664. In 1785, after the American Revolution, the town of Queens was founded on what is now Long Island and it was within Kings County until 1823 when it became a separate county under the jurisdiction of New York City.
