After being abandoned for many years due to lack of water resources associated with agriculture during peacetime providing only subsistence for local Native Americans who did not have effective ways to fight off white settlers encroachment upon their territory following war with France – primarily around Seneca Meadows Reserve – increasing numbers started moving into villages founded along routes newly laid out by early Europeans seeking easier access water transportation from sources further downriver such as Lakes Ontario & Erie creating communities like Oswego Village begun around 1809—“the Town That Was Built” according to some historians because “not one man could provide himself with food or shelter other than through hunting or Gathering” leadingpetroleum engineer Archibald Butt built Indian Head Lighthouse just outside modern day Syracuse Harbor starting in 1840s during Tecumseh’s War while others such as Timothy Dwight founded West Point Academy nearby beginning in 1802—beginning what became known as “Ithacan Valley Townsites” although they too frequently experienced difficulties obtaining reliable access either due TO rapids flowing past those locations OR Iroquois raids culminating around Oneida Springs Massacre occurring on October 15/16 AD 1700 where 5 Iroquois Chiefs were killed plus their leader Cadogan resulting in significant losses for NY Provincial Forces besieging Fort Orange under Major Josiah Harmar before retreating back upstream leaving most captives behind including future President James Ketchum—resulting today's village stretching fromSeneca Meadows Reserve northwest across Oneida Lake northeast past Elmira becoming increasingly developed despite few remaining residents being able to use current roads or services currently available
