They erected a log cabin as their home and began to trade with surrounding settlements. In 1835, during the American Revolution, patriot militia from New York City burned down two buildings in Albany County containing stores used by British forces during the war. This incident led to increased traffic on Route 9 between Albany and Kingston which made possible more efficient shipment of goods across Lake Ontario than had been possible before due to distance and transportation difficulties across open fire lanes at that time. As a result of this increase in tradeactivity around Kingston – which included smuggling operations – several commercial buildings were built near where High Falls now stands in Haverstraw Village (actually just east of present day Main Street). In 1872, following Reconstruction throughout America after the overthrow of slavery*, village incorporation took place in Haverstraw Village effective December 1 that year under terms set forth by Mayor James Waddell*. At its peak there were over 100 residents* although most resided within one or two homes.* Most members still worked farmsteads until World War II when many moved into manufacturing villages such as Watertown or Malone*****. Post-World War II growth has slowed but not stopped; overall population stood at 14 per 1000 residents*** as of 2000*** making it one ofhest towns in New York State*** although*** almost all housing developments have exogenous origins****** apart from 2 small inner-city blocks****** located within 5 minutes walk or bike ride from center ***** currently managed by 3 different organizations(* * denotes organization active today) -Village Planning Board (VPB), Town Clerk’s Office (TCO), Parks Department

The town had a population of about 350 people in 1840. The first store in Haverstraw opened in 1792 and continued until 1828 when it closed due to lack of business. A post office was established at Haverstraw in 1827 and continued until 1893. There were three schools in Haverstrwn during its earliest years; one for boys and one for girls. In 1840, there were only six residents living in the community with a total population of about 350 people
