There is a long and proud history of handguns in Haverstraw, New York. The town was first settled in 1700 by farmers and their families fleeing the British Invasion. There was no gunpowder until the late 1600s, so firearm ownership was limited to hunting and self-defense. Gun slings were used as back up weapons for farmers and hunters until the early 1800s when firearms became more popular. Gun slings were also used as projectiles for target shooting contests held at local fairs. In 1826, a group of men from Haverstraw formed the Haverstraw Rifle Club to promote gun shooting in the town. In 1875, rifle clubs were created in other towns in rural New York State following the American Civil War. This led to the development of modern NRA skillsets such as lobbying for legislation that allows people to own firearms without registration or licensing requirements. Throughout its history, NRA has played an instrumental role in keeping America safe by providing training and support for law enforcement officers across the country. Haverstraw is a town in Schuyler County, New York, United States. The population was 1,825 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Utica-Rome-Nassau Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was named for Haverstraw Creek and its adjoining land. A post office called Haverstraw was established in 1804 and remained in operation until 1857. The first settler in what is now Haverstraw was Elias Cady, who arrived in 1795 and built a cabin on the site of today's village. One of the earliest stores in town was opened by John Glover in 1807 and later became known as the "Glover store." As early as 1824, Isaac Brockuth started to build a grist mill on his farmstead just east of present day Haverstraw village; it continued to be operated until 1862 when it burned down. In 1827, Henry Dearborn established a tavern at what is now Main Street which he called "The Dearborn House." It continued to serve as a popular stop for travelers until 1840 when it closed due to financial troubles. In 1865, manuel Sanchez bought an adjacent lot adjacent to Dearborn's property and began developing what are today buildings along Main Street including the old high school building (now used as apartments), three churches (St Lucy's Episcopal Church circa 1870-1912; Christ Episcopal Church c 1865-1920; First Baptist Church erected 1898), two residences (the Mrs J Jenkins house circa 1850s and an additonnl home which served as both their dining room/entertainment hall and living quarters from 1860s thru 1970s) and various agricultural holdings such as a corn crib, dairy barn/milk house, etc.. In 1880 Samuel Mankiewicz purchased most of Sanchez' lands with plans to establish agricultural villages throughout Schuyler County but never accomplished them because of economic difficulties caused by increased competition from other farmers within Schuyler County. However several years later he reopened his store at Whatcom Avenue near present day Schenectady after purchasing some more land nearby which finally allowed him enough success to provide healthy support for his villagers while also making sales trips back east whereupon he resumed operations at Whatcom Ave.. In 1935 developer Edward Vannin developed much of modern day Haverstraville including many new housing developments including Uptown Shopping Center located on Route 9A north west of downtown Utica during that time period retail shopping areas were becoming increasingly popular with people commuting into larger cities for work or pleasure rather than traveling all the way out into rural towns like Utica where city services were limited or nonexistent. By 1957 all but one residence had been replaced by new structures with only two structures remaining original prewar homes still standing providing interesting contrast against contemporary architecture around them since these dwellings were once considered examples of typical rural farming life during that time period

Haverstraw is a town in Nassau County, New York, United States. The population was 8,912 at the 2010 census. It is the seat of Haverstraw Township. The first European settlers in what is now Haverstraw were Dutch farmers who arrived in 1624 and built a cabin on the Credit River. In 1803, John D'Angelo settled in what is now Haverstraw and developed an agricultural industry around his winery which produced wines that became popular throughout New York State. The town was incorporated as a village in 1825 and again as a town in 1857. The name "Haverstraw" comes from the Lenape word hehvera meaning "to turn over," referring to how villagers would transfer their crops to the wagon wheels of horse-drawn wagons for transportation to market. The community experienced heavy German immigration during World War II, with many people moving into the area because of wartime jobs or military service. Many stores and businesses closed during the war years, but some survived including Haverstraw's only post office which opened on October 6, 1942. The post office closed on April 25, 2009 due to budget cuts by then-New York Governor Andrew Cuomo (). Today, much of what once made up Haverstraw has been replaced by high-rise housing developments or strip malls: there are no remaining barns or farmsteads from when it was one of rural New York's most agricultural townsspeople depended upon for subsistence agriculture; today's residents largely rely on commuting to jobs located within two hours' ride away). However, there are several buildings remaining from when it was one of America's most vibrant small towns: One such building is Larkin Hall (now home to local history museum) which served as the original courthouse until it burned down in 1908; another building still standing is Knowles House (now home to local restaurant), dating back to 1840 and used as both a grocery store and post office until 1954; also remaining are several other pioneer-era homes including Asbury Park (which served as headquarters for American rock band Deep Purple ), McLaughlin House (now home to local bar), Gifford House (now home to local historical society)and Scudderys Tavern . 1/4 mile west of downtown Haverston stands 1/2 mile long Parsonage Road - named after George Washington Parson who donated land for its construction - leading directly out into Middletown Creek where early settlers fished for white catfish near present day West Point Cemetery ()
