He soon became known as "The Brass Man" for his production of high quality ammunition at low cost. In 1875, the first American company to produce shotgun shells was founded in Harrison by Wm. Hite and Jno. Bemis. They were successful enough that they moved their business to Buffalo, New York in 1886 and continued producing shells there until 1912 when they closed down due to competition from Winchester Arms Company. In 1876, America's first self-loading shotgun was invented by George EBNER of Norwich, Connecticut which allowed farmers and hunters to shoot shotguns without having to carry an extra gun or Ammo box around with them. Harrison, New York is a small town in Erie County, New York, United States. The population was 1,751 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Buffalo-Niagara Falls Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1836 by John Cranch and his family. The name comes from Harrison's mill on the Niagara River. The original town site extended well into Ontario County and included present-day Coleraine, Unadilla, Milton, and parts of what is now Buffalo. In 1837 John Cranch donated land to make up for any damage done in a severe combined heat and cold winter that year; this helped to start the development of Harrison as an agricultural village. Harrison had its first school in 1838 and began issuing licenses to build businesses in 1840. By 1850 the village had a store, two hotels, three churches (one Baptist), five schools (three Grade 1 through 6th grades), two mills (for grinding corn and flour for local markets), two blacksmiths', four farmers', five horses/cattlebrids (four head of cattle or one horse per household), four wagons/carriages (two for taking goods to market each day), six dogs/pets (five working dogs and three house pets) and one livery stable serving many residents from all over the communities within a radius of ten miles around Harrisontown square. In 1853 Harrison became part of Onondaga County; however it continued to be locally self-governing until 1865 when it became governed by Albany as part of the Townsite District under state jurisdiction due to growing countyhood demands. In 1915–16 voters approved annexation by Buffalo which made Harrison a full city with its own police department on July 1st 1916 - making it one of only two cities in Erie County that were not already incorporated as towns prior to that date!

In 1861, construction began on the Niagara River Bridge over which traffic would travel between Buffalo and Niagara Falls; this bridge eventually became one of America's most famous landmarks. In 1870, Harrison had a population of 2,075 people; by 1880 it had grown to 4,045 people. In 1895, local manufacturers started producing cheese products that set off a cheese craze in the area; by 1910 Harrison's total production exceeded 5 million pounds annually
