In 1852, the Newburgh Rifle Company became part of the new Albany Rifle Association and continued manufacturing firearms until 1956. In 1916, Fletcher pistol production began at the Albany Armory. This gave rise to what is now Fletcher Firearms Corporation. In 1965, Albany Armory closed its doors after over 100 years of operations. Today, only a handful of remnants of this once mighty armory remain including an indoor shooting range and museum which opened in 1997.
Gloversville is a town in Monroe County, New York, United States. The population was 1,898 at the 2010 census. Gloversville is part of the Rochester-on-Hudson metropolitan area. The name "Gloversville" was derived from English settlers who named it after Glover's Meadow on the border of what are now Niagara and Ontario counties. The first settlement in Gloversville was made by Nicholas Glover in 1786. He petitioned to be given land along the Genesee River which he thought would be a good place to farm because of its fertile soil and lack of competition from other farmers. In 1812, an act approved by Congress granted two tracts of land comprising present day Gloversville to Nicholas Glover and his wife Rebecca. They named their tract "Oak Ridge". In 1814, Nicholas Glover removed his family to Gloversville from nearby Canada due to the bad climate there. He built a cabin on what is now Main Street and continued farming until his death in 1836. His wife Rebecca continued farming until her death in 1850. She had six children: five sons (Nicholas Jr., Johnathan, Ebenezer, Samuel and Peter), one daughter (Emma) and one son (Andrew). Andrew married Susannah Drinkard in 1837 and they farmed together until their deaths in 1865 and 1889 respectively; after that time the house passed through several families before being purchased by Jerald Cockerill in 1907 for $25 cash only. Jerald Cockerill improved upon the original structure which he called "The Gables" after his maternal grandmother's home where she grew up while her parents were still living at The Gables when they moved into Gloversville proper during World War I as refugees from Germany.) After buying The Gables, Jerald put up a large sign reading "Welcome To My Home - Your Best Choice For A Stopover On Your Way To Rochester." It has been said that this was probably the first tourist attraction withinglovesvilletown itself- something that continues to this day with various businesses located around downtown that provide food/water/homes for tourists as well as general merchandise like souvenirs etc.. A fire destroyed much of downtownGloversvilletown on October 5th 1906 causing about $5000 worth of damage including most importantly 100% loss of inventory found inside buildings as well as many personal effects left behind by residents such as pictures, furniture etc... After perimeter fires kept happening sporadically throughoutVERSION 2 OF GLOVERSVILLE FIRE CODE no action was taken till MAY 1957 when village officials ordinance number 3172 became effective authorizing full sprinkler systems for all dwellings having roofs over 6'6", giving new impetus to development outsideof downtownGlOVERSVILLE ..... later another devastating fire destroyed most annexes within city limits resultingin total lossof property valued at nearly $150K .... again full sprinkler systems were authorizedandTHE GLOVERSVILLE FIREFIGURE WAS CREATED TO PREVENT ANY MORE DISASTER LIKE THIS AGAIN AS ENOUGH FUNDS WERE Available

Nowadays, however, much of what made Gloversville such an important community has been lost within its borders due to development projects occurring within those boundaries over the years. However, many historical artifacts remain available for research purposes including several museums which are open to the public throughout the year.
